My step mom was pretty receptive to the idea. I was asking her about her dreams recently to see if she had good dream recall, which she seems to have. I told her about the concept generally, she thought it was interesting, not sure whether or not she heeded the idea or not though. (told her via phone, we live 5 hours away from eachother)

My dad... well, he's not endowed with this kind of mind. I'm sure he could come to know it, I think he just either doesn't want to, or already has a life in this, but does so in his own secrecy.

My mother is intrigued as well, although I don't think she see's it as a "real" phenominon, more of a hopeful reach (similar to the belief in God and "enlightenment").

I find I'm able to intrigue anyone with Lucid Dreaming. I tend to ask a question like... "Wouldn't it be cool if you could...."

Then unleash the idea of Lucid Dreaming.

my parents wouldn't say shit, well they never say shit about what I do, they dont say anything when I smoke weed, drink booze, and many other bad stuff. My parents are just there to provide a roof over my head, put food in my stomache and let me grow as I wish.
in your wildest dreams you couldn't picture a bogan like me, haha

My dad doesn't seem to even register it when I mention LD'ing. It's not like he doesn't care, or isn't interested, it's like he really doesn't hear a word I say when I mention it.
My mom hates it. She probably associates it with me becoming atheist. Either way, whenever I mention LD'ing, she gets all huffy at yells at me because she's of the opinion that it's only something druggies, sex fiends, witches and/or satanists would ever do.
On the topic of DV, she believes it's a place where only said druggies, sex fiends, witches and/or satanists hang out. She even went so far as to spy on my internet use and accuse me of visiting "inappropriate sites" because I posted in a thread about sex and another about weed here on DV. The most annoying part is that she made the accusation without actually reading what I said--if she'd had, she'd find that I'm one of the most outspoken anti-drug members on the site, and in the other thread that I'd told a newer user that they shouldn't waste much time having lucid sex because it isn't a very enjoyable experience in the long-run.
Ugh.
I have a very time engaging in a civil conversation with my mother because of things like this.

I would tell your mom that the very notion of LD'ing influencing your "atheism" is proposterous, since it's probably one of the most spiritual phenominon's known to us thus far.

++ It sounds like sitting down and having a conversation with your mother about who you truly are is imminent. (Just my thoughts... not sure if you want to take them or not, but I figure if I'm here thinking it, you should hear it)

DV had an effect on my atheism--but it was two or three of the members on the board that did so. Lucid dreaming was absolutely irrelevant in my decision.
But still, my mom is so brutally orthodox in everything that she refuses to listen when I say anything of the sort.

By orthodox, I'm assuming christian? Maybe you should mention all the times in the Bible where a lot of prophecy was given through dreams? I've heard a lot of people say that LDing is religious based and all, I don't think it's anything like that, not that it can't be used for that I guess but, I don't pursue those avenues so I'll leave it there.

I can't say too much for your situation because I am not in it therefore there is no real way I can truly comprehend it. However, perhaps you should tell your mother that she's not being very orthodox by treating her offspring in such a manner. I mean you made your choice, why does she have to beat you into the ground?

Moreso orthodox in that she's absolutely mortified of anything other than the accepted norm, but she is orthodox in the christian sense as well, although with a Mormon slant added to it.
But I gave up on talking to her about LD'ing a long time ago. In fact, I gave up on talking to her about almost anything at all.

My dad is jealous I had a lucid dream. He still hasn't found out I "borrowed" good ol' SL's Guide in the first place to realize what I was doing.

Wow, Shadow I suppose that was a nice surprise.

For you Tsen, if you ever again try to talk about LD-ing with your mother, you can say that LD-ing is something like a sword (in here eyes), and a knife (from your point of view). So from her point it's a weapon, it's used by the bad guys, for killing, for destroying relegion. And from your view it's a tool, yes it can be used to harm people, but it's not meant to, and it only depends on the person who use it.

Sorry for spelling mistakes, my head aches... I drank too much, and I can't stand smoke, but I'm still viable, even if my grammar...

My father is pure scientific so but he has actually said that he likes the concept of being able to use lucid dreaming for learning purposes. Although he remains quite uninterested, my mum is overly interested and I have to calm her down! Going to show her this site

Ahhh, yes, I remember the night my parents FOUND OUT my LD obsession. They had banned me from Anime sites for the week cause of bad grades. (last year, 8th grade) So I went onto an OBE site that I'd found 2 days before. I would use that site to hide my other wab page, another LD site. (that was before I found this safe haven. ^__^) I wasn't going to tell them at all. I was afraid of what they might think of say. So back then, I kept it to myself.
Where was I? Oh yes, then my dad says, "What website are you on?" from the living room. Of course, this action triggers my mother into actually looking at the webpage. I say, "It's not an anime site!" and quickly pull up Google to hide everything. Then, my mom come over from the couch where she and my dad were sitting and tells me to show her the site. Usually, I'm very reluctant to dissobey my parents. (I just talk back to them alot.) So, in defeat, I showed her the OBE site.
While she read the content, I started crying. I NEVER wanted her or my dad to find out. The crying and embarrasment got a little worse when she started bombarding me with questions, showing me how obvious it was that she was overly-interested in the fact that you can realize you're dreaming. She THEN blurted it out to my dad, who showed interest for about 2 seconds. After taking 7 plus minutes to tell her about OBEs and LDs, it was time for bed. But her string to questions didn't stop there... It continued for an extra 10 min.

Anyway, I've tried to tell my friends, but only 1 has shown interest. She also just got a DV account!!!

Yeah, now that I look back, it was. She doesn't really talk about it much anymore, though. But every once in a whlie she'll say something about it. My dad, however, is a different story. Sure, he doesn't talk about it frequently either, but about once every 3 weeks, he'll make a smart remark about my LD skill. Take last month, for example. We were arguing about something, and he said, "You're going to do it. Lucidly or not." I said, "Daaad..." and rolled my eyes, very embarrased. He even did that in public once!

Oh gosh... when you're older you will thank your parents greatly. [/b]
Probably. Actually, right now, I'm banned from Anime Club at my high school because I'm failing 4 of my classes. (I have this habit of not turning work in... )

My mother remains uninterested. I've tried explaining things to her, but in my lack of lucid dreaming experience I've gained a wealth of technical lucid dreaming knowledge and I may have turned her off with the myriad of terms and complications. Neither of my parents are really the type to take on something as time consuming and radical as ld'ing though.

I was visitting my parents a couple of weeks ago when my mom asked me: "Hey, are you still running that dream interpretation site? I had the strangest dream the other night"

I think it must be cool to have parent who are interested in ld-ing. When I told my mom what an amazing lucid dream I just had, she just looked at me like I was crazy.
But later on, she ask me if it wasn't dangerous for me, cuz my father's brother was really sick 20 yrs ago (hearing voices n stuff). I told her it's nothing like that.
