I had never heard of a dream guide until I joined this forum a few days ago. So last night when I acheived lucidity (I was in some sort of hotel-convention center) I shouted "Where is my dream guide".

I heard some laughing behind me so I turned around and saw this group of little kids - one of whom was recognisable as my friend's little brother, only he was much younger than he is now.
He said that he was my dream guide. I didn't really question it I just thought that he must be telling the truth so I tried asking him where his sister was. "behind you" he said. I looked and she was there. I looked back and asked him what room I was staying in. "157" he replied.
      Right.
I thought I'd go explore and see where my "room" was in this place. When I got to 157 I had to walk through the door (since I couldn't remember having a key) and I ended up in someone elses room. I tried looking for Tristan (my supposed DG) but couldn't find him again.

      My questions are as follows:

Do you think that he was my "real" DG, or is it possible that it was just another DC playing tricks on me?

Has anyone else had a similar experience while searching for their DGs?

Why would your subconcious start playing tricks like that on itself?
Expect the unexpected - when it arrives ask it if you are dreaming.

It sounds like it was just a normal DC playing tricks.
But the concept of DG is itself controversial. It has not been proved that everyone can find a dream character that is consistently sentient, and can supply useful information.

As to why our subconscious play tricks with us... Well LD is a bit interfering into the normal dream mechanism of the mind, as most people don't LD naturally, so it can be expected that some absurd tricks happen. You can't expect our subconscious to simply "play along" when we meddle with it's inner workings, and reliably supply us with useful and correct information.
