Last night I tried following the instructions in this:

      http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/index.php?...everse+blinking

post in an attempt to fall right into a dream before i fall asleep ( from what i understand, it's very similair to a WILD)

After I was relaxed, i started doing reverse blinking to further relax myself. After doing the blinks, when my eyes bcame to heavy to lift, i started twitching my bicep muscles every 5 to 15 seconds, to trick my brain in to thinking I was asleep. After about 1 minute of voluntary twitches, my muscles started twitching and vibrating all by themselves. After another minute or two, I had an extreme sensation of my whole body becoming extremly numb and cold extremely fast. I jumped out of it after one or 2 seconds because it started to really scare me. Only after thinking aout it I realized I was probably falling in to Sleep Paralysis. Could anyone please explain to me, or refer me to a post that will explain the sensations and effects of Sleep Paralysis? If what I understand is correct, after a few moments of full Sleep Paralysis you start having vivid HI and eventually slip in to a dream. So, could anyone please clear up some of my questions about Sleep Paralysis?

      Thanks, Lexpar.

To my understanding, sleep paralysis involves your muscles becoming numb so they are not moved to great extents while asleep. I researched the idea to find that, when machines record peoples dreams, they find out that (lets assume they threw a Frisbee) the muscle of the arm twitches in a way only a machine can record. If the sleep paralysis didn't occur, it may be possible that everything you did in a LD (or regular dream, possibly) would actually happen in real life.

I'm guessing sleepwalkers have a defect in this area that occasionally ends their sleep paralysis while still asleep, though for it to happen, I would think that the person was having a false awakening (but still in a dream, not a LD). The reason I say its not a LD is because people can't remember sleep walking, and the things people do in sleep walking is usually very odd, even though they know the house very well.

So basically, sleep paralysis is the protection of your body while asleep. I hope that cleared some things up for you

Remember, nothing to be scared of. Its all a natural process; lucid dreaming isn't changing anything.

I haven't ever experienced sleep paralysis myself, so I have no direct experience with it, but I have read a lot about it, and I think I can answer your questions.

The symptoms of sleep paralysis vary, the only thing present in all cases is extreme difficulty in moving the body. Other common symptoms are a feeling of shaking, difficulty breathing, raise in heart rate, and hallucinations, usually nightmarish ones. However, each case is different, and they rarely show all of these symptoms, with some of them never showing at all in some people. Although they can be frightening if you don't know what's happening, none of the symptoms of sleep paralysis are harmful, and some of the people here actually find them exciting.

I don't think sleep paralysis usually leads into dreaming on it's own, especially since most people experiencing it usually try to resist it. However, people here have had success leading sleep paralysis into lucid dreaming. The most common method I've seen is to attempt to roll out of your body. When you can do that, it cuts off the link to your real senses present in the paralysis, allowing you to enter into a lucid dream.
