I don't know if anyone else here feels the same but I get this weird feeling sometimes before I go to sleep.
I sometimes feel scared of Lucid Dreaming because I feel that it might go horribly wrong. This doesn't happen when I want to have a DILD but whenever I try to do a WILD or a FILD (basically trying to enter a lucid dream right after I go to sleep) I have this fear that my LD is going to be turned into a nightmare.
I keep trying to distract my mind from all the scary stuff in my head but I can't stop them. Thats probably one reason why WILDs and FILDs don't work for me and I can only have DILDs.
Does anyone else have the same feeling? Or does anyone know how I can overcome this?
All of ur suggestions are appreciated.
thanx

I had talked about this issue in this thread (went completely unnoticed).

For me, it's not really about fear of nightmares because i'm able to change the scene or wake myself up. It's something beyond that, a feeling of helplesness in front of a much greater cosmic power... I get a few Epic dreams from time to time, and i'm always both fascinated (almost hypnotized by the beauty) and fearing something would go terribly wrong while being stuck in the dream.

I totaly get the same thing as you two. The way you Unicorn mentioned it, some unreasonable "fear" or helplessnes. Like a moment ago, I was having a nap. I've been sleeping most of the day, since I'm quite tired. So anyway, I'm guessing that I had lots of FAs douring this period of sleeping.
For one I know for sure, everything was mostly ok, but the computer was in the middle of the room with my brother using it. So I joined him, I took a sit besides him and said like, "I'm going to do a Rc just for fun" (I've started doing them again, 1 or 2 a day ). Ofcourse I didn't believe it would work, but it did. So I just sat there and the moment I became lucid, that fear came with it. Then I continued to just sit there doing nothing, waiting for me to wake up, or for something to happen, I was basically prepared to "defend myself" or at least I got the feeling that's what I was doing.
Also another strange thing happened, my mother came into the room and started staring at me. I returned the stare and kept eye contact, so I'm like staring and staring and... And a few seconds later everything stayed, but that fear was gone. When I noticed that I also noticed that the dream feeling was gone. So I was awake. Were my eyes open while I was dreaming? Did my dream "manifest" what it heard from the waking world?...
Where are the good old days when I just went flying or doing something sensless and fun, with no fear at all?

Just a quick question.... and I felt the same way...
Why would you be scared of something you can control?

Why would you be afraid of clowns, or of water...? It's one of those unreasonable things, that are caused by something I guess . What, I don't know.

So? As long as you know its a dream... And in a dream, nothing can happen to you. So why worry?

Well it's just like watching a horror movie. You know it's just a movie , and it can't possibly hurt you or anything ... but you're still scared of it. (This example only works if you actually get scared by horror movies ... but you get my point )

Even though i can control the contents of my dreams, i have a feeling there are elements that will always be out of my reach. Just like in the waking life, you do not control every bit of your dream, even though you think you do. Of course, i don't have that feeling of helplessness in every LD, some of them are way too fun However, i'm sometimes confronted with some really breathtaking visuals, which really make me question their origins. So perhaps i'm the one who created my dream world, but i do believe of higher forces that are pulling some strings...

I know what you mean , I have seen images in my dreams that I never thought my mind was able to create.
But I'm not sure if I believe in the higher power that you referred to. But I DO believe in a higher power that is a part of my mind and I call it 'My Subconscious' ; which creates all those images in my dreams and controls most of my non-lucid dreams.

It's probably just fear of the own mind, as us humans have this great fear of not being able to control our surroundings. Our minds are great, wonderful things, and sometimes they seem to scare us. I know mine has.
But there isn't much to worry about, its just a dream ;D
Good luck, though..

I've also started fearing my LD's which is crappy

It started when i started getting weird paranoid feelings from DC's. I don't fear lack of control in a dream, but i don't believe its all a creation of mine. I think dreams are a combination of our own thoughts and foreign energy, like a connection to otherworlds that exsist right here with us. Becoming lucid in a dream means that you can interact with this other energy.

I know it sounds pretty trippy and maybe i'm just paranoid but it kinda frightens me and the last few times i've LD'd i've woken up in a cold sweat, complete with aural hallucinations and strong vibrations as i'm waking

Hrm. I never really have a fear of them. They tend to happen unexpectedly. What I fear most is entering the half state of sleep brought on by sleep paralysis, I really hate that and even though I know what it is, it's still something that causes great fear in my body and mind.
