Hey, i just got thinking to myself, since i havn't had a full proper long controllable lucid yet, i wanted to know if you actually live the moments that you are lucid or whether you just wake up in the morning with just the memory of the lucid, or is it both, you obviously definately need to remember, otherwise you wouldn't know if you had one or not, what i'm asking is "do you live the actual moment you are lucid dreaming" or is it just a memory you remember when waking? Sorry for the noobish question

Regular dreams aren't "just memories" either. A memory of an action cannot exist without the action. This is just a given, considering the nature of memories in general. Even though dreams are built of conceptual thought, it is my understanding that the events dreamt still happen, the difference being that time isn't an independant constant factor during dreams.

And though I've not had a lucid dream, I think I can say surely that since becoming lucid implies gaining awareness and using your conscious mind, it most certainly means the events within dreams happen. Also, because of the conscious frame of mind in lucid dreams, they should technically slow down to a relatively "usual" time flow as in the waking state.

I think I get what you're trying to say. Are you trying to day it feels so real that you've virtually burned into your mind the feel of your hand against the hard dirt/rock, the emotions mixed into the air, things like that, [and if I'm understanding what you're saying and not my own interpretation of it] then my answer is yes. I find myself savoring each and every moment I'm fully aware that I'm dreaming with all my actions. Yes, I can see it as a memory at first, whether a surreal one or not, but, depending on how much I personally felt in that dream, it'll stir up emotions I felt in that dream and such. I really, really hope that I'm not interpolating here.

Yeah, they're in the moment. It's like any other hour passing. You know you were at your computer typing, but now you have a memory of it. So you actually live in the moment in a lucid dream. You'll see.

As far as the brain is concerned, yes, dream events are as real as any other. They don't take place in the physical world but, they are the same experiences as waking life experiences. The only difference is the source of information.

As long as we keep the context of the two worlds separate in our understanding I think we can say that we actually do live the moments of our dreams.

whew, it must be just the realism in my dreams, when i'm in the dream it seems real but it feels just like a memory when waking up, this makes perfect sense but it feels so real when in the dream but when waking up i know it happened but i can't remember that realism i experienced in the actual dream

personally, I don't think the brain is quick enough to invent a whole lot of experience just at the moment you wake up in the morning. as everyone on this list has experience with, being that creative first thing in the morning is usually a challenge. I think you actually have the dreams while asleep, and there seems to be enough scientific reason to back that up.

but, I had an interesting non-lucid dream the other day. my alarm went off (I know if actually did, not part of the dream) then I went back to sleep.

i dreamt I was in this huge, boring day-long meeting at work, except it was in my home! (talk about nightmare!&#33. Finally the meeting was over, in the dream I was exhausted and thankful that the day came to a finish.

...the punchline is then my snooze alarm went off. only 10 minutes after the first alarm. my dream warped time so much so that in the dream a whole "day" went by in dream meeting.

So, the point being, a dream can "make it up", like generating the sensation of time passing in the same way that it generates other physical feelings.
This lucid dream has encountered a fatal error! Reboot? [Y/N]

do you think its possible to build it somehow so that your memory of your dream seems like an everyday part of your life, like i can remember how realistic 10 minutes ago was, but build it so that i can say that my dreams were very realistic.

I have the common problem of my dreams becoming like movies. Once I become lucid, they become unrealistic and Its like a I watch virtual reality. I may be able to get over this. I think though, yes you can "live" the dream (that sounds inspiring). If your just work on telling yourself casually, they're important, and you get joy out of remembering your dreams, you may be surprised how realistic they can seem later on in the day.

Hmm interesting topic though, not a N00WB13 question, and even if it was...so what?

Lol, well the main part that i'm interested in with lucid dreaming is the realism part, how it compares to real life, the whole thing with being able to live and experience something almost better than waking life impresses me more than being able to do whatever you want, that comes second, i have a huge fascination for lucid dreaming and i'm glad something like this came about! Hey bro, i got your emails btw

They are in the moment. Even now, I can think back to a lucid-dream, and get the feeling of being there. I love it

      In the moment.
I was also fascinated by that thought, of being in dreams as they happen and not as I remember them. In my first LD I even philosophized about it. "Hey! I'm here! Right now!"

Longest time in a lucid dreamstate: ~6 seconds

Still, the most epic six seconds I have ever experienced...

Think about it this way, Lucid Seeker:

If you have a mundane job as a paper-pusher, in a law firm, you may be sitting there, doing your work - the same, robotic actions, over and over - and then suddenly realize you can't remember if you've screwed up the last few pages you were working on, because your mind was somewhere else. Non-lucid dreams can be compared to this. Your mind, in them, is on autopilot. When you wake up, and engage your conscious mind, it is like you can only remember the dream, because your conscious mind was detached.

If you are doing the same job, but are actively involved, there is much less of a chance you are going to suddenly realize you screwed up the last page or so, because you are living the moment, attentively. Your conscious mind is engaged, experiencing and focusing on all of your actions, as they happen. This is comparable to a lucid dream.
