I havent posted in a while... but i had a really crazy dream last night that i wanna share. I was at my computer watching pornography when i noticed my brother and sister were on the couch beside me trying to sleep. I turned down the sound on my speaker, but as soon as i brought it down to zero, i watched it turn itelf back on, so i turned it down agian. This happened a couple times the same way. Then on the fourth or fifth time i tried to turn the volume down a force started to push agianst it and the harder i poushed it pushed back, until it overpowered me and maxxed out the volume. I thought "shit there must be a ghost here or something. wait a minute, ghosts arent real, i must be dreaming." but i wasnt convinced. I kept pushing the volume control until all of a sudden my surroundings melted away. I was in darkness then all of a sudden horrible lights started flashing randomly and terrible ear-splitting noises suffocated me. The whole time i thought i was dreaming, but i was too freaked out to do anything about it, and i was never sure i was dreaming. It was the most terrifying thing ever. It must have gone on for at least 5 minutes before i tried to force my eyes open to escape it and i woke up.

Yeah thats about it. It was really really intense.

Sounds to me like you had a night terror, I have those sometimes too, its where you are lucid but for some reason you are unable to control your dream, usually it involves you panicking and forgetting that you have the ability to stop what is going on, usually in the event of something really terrible, like for me my worst night terror was when I had to watch my family get torn apart piece by piece while I stood there helpless, but if you are able to calm yourself down and tell yourself that you are in a dream it will go away, my method is I stop running or fighting or whatever I am doing, I close my eyes, and I just say hey, its a dream, its not real, and when I open my eyes my dream control comes back, but it happens to the best of us so dont let it get you down

That thing with the sound has happened to me before, more than once but there was one dream that I had that I remember in particular. The description of it will never do it justice, because actually experiencing it is one of the most frightening things that has ever happened to me in a dream.

I was sitting around watching T.V. in my dream when randomly the volume on the TV started to go up. Thinking it was weird and that my T.V. was broken (and not recognising it as a dream sign =&#092 I picked up the remote to turn it down. It didn't work. In fact doing that seemed to provoke the T.V. into increasing the volume even further. I was by myself in the dream so I wasn't worried about noise, but at this point it was unbearably loud.

The volume just kept increasing and increasing until it became deafening. The sound turned into a high pitched whine that flooded my senses.

It scared the crap out of me.

Interesting that you'd have an experience quite similar. In any case it's never happened to me again in, which is pretty awesome as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully it was a one off for you too.

Do you listen to anything like music when you sleep at night? If so, this part of your dream could have been caused by the sounds you are listening to getting into your dreams.

No matter how hard you try to turn the volume down, the sound is still there because of the sound you are actually hearing, which causes the sound to keep being turned back up in your dream.

This is sort of like when a person dreams that have to go to the bathroom, but no matter how much they go in their dream, they still have to go, because they still actually do have to go physically, since using the bathroom in their dream does not get rid of what they are feeling physically.

If you don't listen to anything at night while you sleep, and this dream manufactured all of these things on its own, then it might be a warning from your subconscious to keep certain things in check to make sure they don't get out of control.

Either that, or else your subconscious mind was just trying really hard to give you a lot of signs that you were dreaming to help you become lucid, which it sounds like almost worked.
