Question High Altitude Dreams- and why we need them...

Why do we all posess the same goal? Why do we all want to fly in our dreams???? I took this Q to every Lucid Dreamer i know and even some of my High School teachers and everyone tells me the same thing.."cuz its impossible in real life". Why do we become so wowed by such impossiblilities like flying? Personally i believe now that humans as we are, we will never get used to or become satisfied with what we have, i guess every human has the need to see something impossible to prove an ungiven point that we are and probably always be limited to two legs and arms. What do you guys think? If you are awed by flight or just really want to experience it why do you think we need it so badly???

I don't know whether this is helpful or not - but there are other things I wish to do more than flying when I finally have a LD. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be cool - but so would other things.

I suppose my perspective might change if I had a flying dream though. Last night I dreamed that I was about a kilometre up, clinging to a wardrobe. Scared the crap out of me - 1000m is a long way to fall!

I would say its because its so exhilerating, rather than simply because its impossible in WL. Plus it IS possible in WL (aeroplanes!) and there's lots of other impossible things that you probably wouldn't want to do - like eating fire or whatever. No wait... that sounds fun!

I love flying - its what brought me to LDs in the first place. The thing I could never understand was how do we create very convincing experiences of flight without having done it (my first flying dreams were years before I took an aeroplane). Makes me wonder if I was a bird in a previous life...

I think it's a simple reflection of the desire for freedom. Like a metaphor carried out into an experience...

I also think it's a central theme in LD'ing desires because it's entirely safe to do within a lucid dream. There's a fear and hesitance associated with skydiving, paragliding, hang gliding, and so on, not to mention a cost in time and money, that's not associated with flying in a lucid dream.

The fact that it's such a central thought in all our minds though... perhaps it's an indication of an archetype?

On a side note, are people aware that commercial space flights offering weightlessness are real already??!?!

My guess is that within 10 years they will be something fairly common i.e. affortable. (For middle America, that is.) but right now they're already available for the right price. Effin' unbelievable!!
