Something I don't understand about SP

Why do people hallucinate or receive odd feelings of presences'? I can understand the vibrations, but not the rest.

Well, I may be wrong, so feel free to correct.
But since your body is not yet dreaming, but basically, 'Half Dreaming'
your vision is 'Half Dream Like'.
So you still see your normal vision, just with dream like impairments to your vision, resulting in hallucinations.
The odd presences I can not explain and my only reasoning to them is because your hallucinating someone in your room, giving you an odd or terrifying feeling someone is present because you can faintly see them with your own eyes.

I'm the opposite. I perfectly understand the hallucinations - but as to what the vibrations are, I wish I could say I knew what they were, but I don't.

      .

This is just a theory. I think the whole idea behind halluinations both visual and auditory is that the brain has to keep going. Meaning that if it is not recieving external information to process - no light and no sound. It begins to produce it's own. Remember, if your brain was doing nothing you would be brain dead.
I think the vibrations tie into this. The sense of touch after all is still a sense. Only I think this is more difficult for the body to separate becuase when you are lying in bed you brain can still sense you body. In order for your body to enter the sleep state the brain must "let go" of this sensory information. I think that is why the sensations it creates with vibrations, sinking, and floating tend to be stronger (for me anyway) than the hallucinations.

Sleep paralysis occurs most commonly from 2 things.

      1) You have just awoken.
      2) Your about to fall asleep.

Now if you are in a state of SP then you know some things for sure.

      1) Your body is asleep.
      2) Your mind is awake.

Okay so why do people hallucinate or receive odd feelings of presences? Quite simply you are on the verge of falling asleep or you have woken up from a dream (whether you recall it or not) Since your mind is aware, but not fully awake it creates auditory and visual hallucinations because of the state that your mind is in.

For instance if you were to see or hear things in a dream I doubt you would find this very strange would you? But since your mind is half awake on the verge of a dream state it creates these effects which believe to be real, but they aren't.

Basically you see and hear what you do because your mind is not fully awake it is in more of a pre-dream state than a pre-awakened state.

      The Catatonic State AKA SP

      http://www.astralvoyage.com/projection/Catatonic.html

There is a state of awareness that most of us encounter at some time or another that is not astral projection, nor is it a dream.

The catatonic state of awareness is when our consciousness detaches and transfers itself from our physical body to our etheric body (but not yet in the astral body). However, the etheric body is still considerably attached to the physical, and has most of the "control".

Clinical psychologists call this Sleep Paralysis, but they are wrong. They define this as a REM sleep state and that the consciousness can not become aware of anything by perceiving it and that it can be aware of nothing except what it "hallucinates". When I read about Sleep Paralysis, I have to smile, because here are some of the symptoms:
      - Vibrations and shaking
      - The sensation of floating, as in "out of body"
      - The sense that other beings are in the room or vicinity
      - The ability to see through closed eyes.

We are immobile because the abilities are no longer with the physical. You can "see" through closed eyelids because we are seeing in the etheric body (I get this all the time). Your physical "muscles" don't work because your consciousness is no longer sending conscious signals to your physical body. Since the etheric is also known as the electromagnetic body, you can hear radio waves and people on the lower planes. Another common side effect is the inability to move (again, because you are not completely attached to the physical body so you cannot scream, move, or anything of a physical nature). It's like having a mind, and no body. This can be a terrifying state (and is for about 90% of reported cases) because although you can hear people in or near your room, you are immobile! If you read my Science and Astral Projection Link (and then read the "test results") you'll see that the catatonic state increases with the use of these magnets due to the nature of the etheric body.

The chemical process that creates this catatonic state, thus allowing the consciousness to switch vehicles, starts with REM sleep. REM sleep begins with signals from an area at the base of the brain called the pons. These signals travel to a brain region called the thalamus, which relays them to the cerebral cortex. The pons also sends signals that shut off neurons in the spinal cord, causing temporary paralysis of the limb muscles (the catatonic state).

So what does one do in this state? Well, I'm a big advocate that fear should be overcome, so I try and face it, regardless of the outcome. Just this weekend I woke up in this state and felt someone in my room, I killed all fear and just "welcomed" it. It turned into a very pleasant experience unlike the one before where I was very afraid.

You can also try and project from this state. Several days ago I woke up in this state, told myself to try and not be afraid, and then focused on my third eye. Vibrations rushed in, but I just couldn't let the nagging thought escape me that I was "vulnerable" in this state, so the vibrations continued for a few minutes, and then dissipated.

It's important to learn control and develop the ability to manipulate the consciousness in this state. Practice and facing fear is the only way to get around this.

While reading another thread on SP last week or two, I came across another poster who put it this way (sorry I don't remember who said it, I was unable to find the thread).

Basically, we get scared because our Fight or Flight reaction is useless. It's the body's natural defense mechanism, and during SP, we can neither fight our fear nor run from it, which leads to an increase in the fear.

I mis-read the question, I'm sorry. I thought you were asking why people hallucinate scary images.

I heard its because you get a little freaked out from all of the feelings and you get scared. So you start thinking of scary things and you get freaky images, sounds, feelings and whatnot.
