From what I've read, and personal experience, sleeping pills are the worst possible things for lucid dreams.

They make me too out-of-it. It's like I'm dead when I take them. Certainly not good for improved consciousness while dreaming.

      I just hate them really.
If my dreams were vampyres they would be Blade.

yeah i thought that could be the case, i also know that if you want to lucid dream the best way is to learn and naturally do it. but i also want to experiment, i was planning on taking one sleeping tablet, and before i sleep i would have a cup of strong coffee to see if that would give me a boost in my dream and become lucid. anyone ever tried this?

I've heard stories that people under the influence of alcohol when going to sleep have fewer, groggier dreams in the beginning of the night, and then experience REM rebound once the effects of the depressant wear off in the early morning, producing long, vivid dreams just before they wake up (longer/more vivid when compared to the average last dream).

As for the effects of a sleeping tablet, which is also a depressant, I'd assume you'd have horrible recall and REM periods the night you take it. Unlike alcohol, sleeping pills are designed to last for eight full hours. You'd probably get REM rebound the night afterward, assuming you don't take another dose.

Note that REM rebound doesn't necessarily entail lucidity (it depends on how often/when you do reality checks). I just posted this because I felt it relevant.
