      How can I calm down

Everytime I get lucid (rare nowadays) I feel so anxious and compelled to try to do everything I wanted to do as quick as I can because I"m afraid of waking up. Ironically, this is usually what causes me to wake up. How can I relax and take my time? I always get all hyper and try to rush through it.

Set this goal as you are going to bed so you remember to stay calm once you become lucid. Then once you are lucid just slow down and try to take a few deep breaths.

Several things I use to calm down.

      1. Breathe deep. I don't mean that pansy stuff you typically do, breathe deep. Close your eyes and suck in air until your chest expands and you can't take in anymore, then exhale slowly. I always do this when I need to calm down, and it works pretty well.

      2. When you become lucid, pause, and concentrate upon the first thing you see. Don't look at anything else, don't think about anything else. Just lock your eyes on whatever it is and study it. Touch it, smell it, etc. The idea is to ground yourself in the moment, so that you don't get so anxious you lose your lucidity.

      3. Before sleeping, tell yourself that you will remain calm when lucid. Autosuggestion can't hurt.
      Are you dreaming?

Exactly. I usually look at the details of something near, or my hands. Some people might think it's a waste of time but compared to the extended lucid time you'll get it's worth it.

      Lucid dream! Lucid dream!
quickly ends your lucid dream, or makes it less stabilized. ( Wasted my lucid dream! )

      Hey there,

Some good advice here. One more thing I'd like to add:

      Don't feel rushed!

It's very easy to get caught in the idea when you get lucid that you have to hurry because you only 'get so much' time before the dream ends. Unfortunaly, thinking that makes it come true. Rather act as if you have all the time in the world, take it easy, take your time, and preferably dont even think about awakening or the dream ending at all.

Great advice so far. I'll have to try to do that. But it's like I get into a different mindset. I assume autosuggestion can help with that.. heh.

Yeah thats what I was going at. Autosuggestion/Hypnosis has infinite possibilites.
