      Is it possible...

Is there actually a possiblity that I've become... Bored of lucid dreaming!? I never thought it could happen...

I found myself being very interested in lucids early this year, about January. And now, not even a year of investigating lucids... I fear I've lost interest.
I guess it happens every now and then, but I remember thinking about going to the moon, going in the ocean, doing all sorts of things, and now... nothing.

I hope it's just a phase, and that I'll become more interested later. But I've found myself stopping DJ'ing, and my dream recall has taken a turn for the worse. Without lucid determination, I'm lucky to remember two a month.

Has anyone else had this sudden decrease in interest? I mean inside, I still really want to have lucids, but I just can't get the determination, the focus, the right time. Is there anyway to renew my interest without waiting?

My last lucid was a couple weeks before school started... maybe it's the focus on school that has my dream recall hostage. I'm not for sure.

Any help on what to do would be appreciated.
      To many more lucids...

      ~Vivid

Approx. 30 lucids to date and I don't want to stop there...

The fact that you're worried proves that you're not bored with LDing. Like any hobby, you have your ups and your downs, your moments of interest and your moments of disinterest. If you give it a break, you'll probably find yourself getting interested again in a little while. If you can find something new about LDing to jumpstart your interest again however, you'll be back into it in no time. We are always more dedicated to endeavours to which we attribute goals.

How anyone can lose interest in lucid dreams simply amazes me!

If you can't think of something to do, you could just go with the flow.

Or just think of the possibilities! Look over what you've done, and then spend a few minutes writing a list of what you could do! Also look over the "DCs say the dardest things" thread, that'll make you want to go try to meet some DCs

Hi Vivid, it could be that Ur not having them everynight like U would like to and it's become a random 'reward' so U loose the motivation. IMO the only way to rekindle Ur interest is to find a new reason/purpose for LDing if U haven't already done so I suggest U get a real reason for doing it not just "OK..I'll have an LD tonight and we'll see where we want to go". I mean a real ultimate reason for LDing.

It's not a decision. It's a feeling (just like being gay ). I suffer the same thing.

      Hey there,

Some good advice by above posters. I'm gonna take things a bit more psychoanalytically though, so be forewarned

It strikes me that oftentimes, when we feel we cannot reach something, we begin to devaluate it. Things like frustration, fear of failure, irritation, anger with ourselves about not 'getting what we want', causes us to turn our back on things.

Suppose I love basketball, love watching, love the sport, love the atmosphere, everything about it. I finally get the nerve to go play it, and what happens. Turns out I'm clumsy, too short, and basically don't work well as part of a team. Very quickly I'll get frustrated and sad, and after that, I begin to lose my interest in basketball completely. Maybe it isn't the sport for me, maybe football is.

The thing is, this is what in psychoanalysis we call unconscious defense mechanisms. Subtracting value from a thing that causes a confrontation with ourselves is one of the primary mechanisms (as well as denial and repression). Basically, no one wants to feel angry, irritated, inadequate, all the time, so when we grasp for something and fail to reach it, our mind 'helps us' by telling us that 'it's ok, its really not so special anyways, there's other things to reach for'. Consequently we lose interest without really knowing why, and some time later, we find ourselves surprised: "I don't really know why I stopped trying... I just... did."

With something that is as tricky and difficult to grasp as dreaming, you see this defense mechanism triggered a lot. This is why I always advice people to work from the ground up. Appreciate what you have, enjoy what you have, and build from there. Don't try too hard to grasp for things you don't have yet, because it can have an averse affect on your motivation.

Anyways, that's just my 2 psychological cents

It's probably just a phase. Come back to it a little later.

I... I've gotten interest back. I had such a dream the other night... I-it was incredible. I wasn't lucid, but I suspected I was dreaming.

I've found the determination once more. It seems my mind is finally agreeing with me and is allowing me to continue. Thanks for your suggestions.

Here's to a lucid tonight! *ching*

Well, iv been in your situation before
basically i went off and on alot

till one day i it struck me that we have to sleep i meen shit why waste the time
we could be exploring anything and everything

I don't try really hard to have lucids but i do my usual WBTB ruteen (sp)
      etc

if i where you i would just put a little effort into it
you dont have to write your dreams down, i dont
DJ's are a waste of time unless you just really wanna document
      your dream for futher reading.

      anyways, thats my 2 cents

EDIT: lol just read your post, Good for you ! XD

I'm going through the same thing. It's not really that I lost interest, but more that I'm not as motivated. I've been trying since I joined and I still haven't had an actual lucid dream. When I first joined, I had fun thinking about things I could do and experience while lucid, but now I've ran out of ideas for possible lucid activities. I really want to have a lucid dream, but I'm just not as excited about thinking about them anymore.

I guess the mood I'm in right now is waiting. I'm waiting for a lucid dream to happen, but it's going to take a while if I just wait and don't do anything about it. But I'm never going to give up trying to lucid dream. I doubt I'll ever leave this forum, even if I never have a lucid dream.
