      Darkness

      Hi
there is something strange with my dreams
For some reason, they are always in darkness - there is no sun or other light sources in my dreams, almost no colours, it is always night there.
In the past two years I remembered at least one dream almost every day and not even once there was daylight in my dream...

So I wonder, is there a reason behind this?
Are they other ppl like me who have experienced the phenomenon?
      What do you think?

      Thanks
      and Good Night!

Hmmm I have had dreams where I was darkness. What do you think about these dreams are they scary or do they seem normal to you?

      I don't always have darkness.
But most of my dreams seem to be...dim. I can't describe it any better.
Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.

are your dreams normal dreams or lucid dreams?

when there is something that is fairly constant in your dreams, it could be symbolic of yourself. night time is a little mysterious, and a little withdrawn from the world since the world is sleeping.

alternatively, night time dreams can mean in the dream you're an alter ego, since in a night time dream you don't have to worry about daily life - of which a lot of people dream about. for example, in a day time dream I'm more likely to find myself at work. In a night time, I'm out in the streets doing things I couldn't do otherwise, liking turning into a wolf

      Nazzul-
well my dreams are not scary at all - I rarely have nightmares. Apart form the darkness I think my dreams are quite normal.

      Chris182t-
I think I know what you're talking about as some of my dreams too can best be described as "dim". I don't think it is related to the darkness though

      Terne-
my lucids are dark as well as my regular dreams, though once I successfully made the sun shine in my LD and had some light (usually an attempt to illuminate my dream ends it...)

      juroara-
Both (now that I think of it maybe this topic doesn't belong to this section of the forum...)
your theory is interesting and might be true to certain extent but I have the feeling this darkness is rooted deeper in my dream world.
What bother me is the immense difference between myself in the real world and my dream-self (even while lucid sometimes)like my dream-self is stuck as who I was like some years ago or something 0_o, so maybe this darkness is there to broaden this distinction. Well but that just don't really make sense

      tnx for the replys!

We all have our own limitations and worldly definitions in the dream world. I find it fascinating that yours happens to be darkness.

It's interesting to hear too that you're stuck as a past version of yourself in your dreams. Was there something you felt was unfinished, incomplete back then?

Well, I used to have dreams of not being able to open my eyes and not being able to speak in dreams before I came out.... I suspect that the darkness in your dream is a looming symbol of some sort. What could it be, though?

I've just ended a spate of dreams where all I could see was dark greyness. Related perhaps?

I can't point at any major event in my life that was left unfinished back then hmm

I tend to agree the darkness should symbolize something, I spend many thoughts on this but can't think of something.

I must add that the very few dreams I remember from my chilhood also happened in the dark, dunno if I can conclude anything from this...

MisterHyde - I don't think so, In my dreams I do see things - objects, people etc. just all is shrouded in darkness.

When I will be able to find my DG someday I hope he/she would know the reason for this darkness

Maybe it's because you sleep in the dark, and even while you're dreaming, you know it's dark outside.

Does this still happen when you dream during daytime naps? Have you tried sleeping with the light on? Sounds silly, but I used to sleep with lights on so my WILDS would not begin with a dark room. I have also noticed that my dreams during daytime naps are set in the day, while my night time dreams are set in a nightscape.

      dreamscaper22 - could be

Robot_Butler - I thought of this, but from the times I got up from a dream quite late when there was surely light(like about 9 or 10 ) there was no change - still the darkness was there.
I will try sleeping with the lights on to see what happens
