Definitely not.
You will experience many bizarre sensations that you have never felt before, and see really crazy things that you've never seen before while attempting to WILD. People were not meant to stay conscious as they are falling asleep...but it is one hell of a ride, and I just love it. Some people can't handle it, all those weird sensations and such scare them. And some people jump to the conclusion that just because they are experiencing weird stuff that they are having an OBE, heh. That's definitely not the case though.
All you are experiencing is sleep paralysis, which includes the weird body sensations, the intense vibrations, detatched limbs, sinking into your bed, etc. ...and when these sensations combine with HI, you can get some pretty crazy stuff. Most of the time when I reach the HI stage, I've left behind bodily sensations and have entered full SP, but the times when they overlap, you will be having hypnogogic hallucinations during SP which can make you hallucinate all sorts of things. For example, I've been laying there and during SP hallucinated that my bed was violently jumping up and down. Another time, I hallucinated that "someone" crawled into bed with me...and spoke to me...which freaked me out, but when I opened my eyes there was no one there. So be ready for anything. And no...you are not having an OBE.
Also...a few tips on WILDing position that I find extremely useful...you may as well.
1)do NOT try to WILD in your normal sleeping position, you'll just fall asleep, I too find it best to lay straight on my back
2) keep your arms and legs straight, when you enter SP your joints will start to ache, and anywhere that your body is bent, you will experience an aching here which just makes you more aware of the SP
3) again, arms straight at your sides...another reason for this besides the aching joints is because during SP you will experience really weird sensations that your arms are disconnected, or laying in odd ways...for example...like you I used to lay with my arms folded on my chest, but then I would have weird sensations that one hand was on top of the other or grasping the other, when I was pretty sure that they were never even touching when I layed them on my chest (which they weren't), so I find that if I know for sure that my arms are at my sides, I don't have to worry about weird limb sensations...another reason...is to keep things off your chest, next point
4) make sure there is nothing on your chest, especially your hands, and even your blanket, when you enter SP, and sometimes even when you are LDing your breathing will become extremely heavy as you are more aware of it, I've found that even a soft thin blanket will feel like a ton of bricks on my chest, yeah it's a mental thing, but it helps to have nothing on your chest
that's all I can think of for now...
