      What a disappointment

I was having an absolutely incredible dream - perhaps the most vivid I can remember. I thought I should do a reality check because some of it seemed so utterly impossible, so I counted five fingers on each hand and tried to push my finger through the palm of my hand (it was solid or so I thought). My next thought was "I'm not dreaming, this is really real". The dream immediately ended and I awoke in my bed. What a disappointment.

Something interesting about awakening was how I felt at the moment. In my dream, I had been sitting at a table eating soup when I did the reality check. When I physically awoke in my bed I was laying down, but my body still thought it was sitting upright. The disconnect of my body insisting I was in one position and my mind knowing that I was in another was quite amusing.

      Haha,
      Oh dear.
Maybe next time try a variety of reality checks?

Hmm I've never experienced what you describe about your body still thinking you were in the dream position. Sounds interesting though
Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.

hmm, I've noticed that quite a lot of people have failed using those reality checks, and also the one where you plug your nose or whatever. I'm glad I never used those because I usually use the clock method, though i've heard that it didn't work for someone once. I usually don't need to use a reality check,
I know that I am dreaming and I just do a reality check to make sure.

You might want to try the light switch method too, I tried it once and sure enough, the light didn't turn off.

      good luck!

About the thing that happened when you woke up.

Maybe you were actually in that sitting position, but not with a physical body, but with an energetic body?

Some days after I had a car accident, I dreamt a about having an accident, and the memories of that event woke me up. But at that moment I felt as if my body was being strongly pushed til it crashed (I didnt see anything, it was just a feeling). And during some minutes afterwards I felt my whole body vibrating and coulnt move...
