      What experiences help LDs?

Hey everyone. I'm a beginner dreamer, had my first short LD last night. I've built up decent recall over the last month or so, usually one or two dreams a night. Been reading this board a lot and decided to do a VILD.

Since the best 'starter' LD is flying, I decided to think about the skydive I went on two weeks ago. I thought about being in the plane with the words "reality check" written all over it. I'd been working on this dream for a week and finally had it last night. Looked at my watch for a reality check and was able to jump out of the plane and start flying! It ended quickly but was quite a rush!

So I was wondering - what other life experiences make great starts for LDs? Maybe it's easier to start a LD when the beginning is so out of the ordinary?

      Parasailing helped me visualize flying.
Also playing video games without clipping helps you see how to walk through walls
Scuba diving / snorkeling for breathing underwater
      Watching The Matrix for jumping

awesome I've always wanted to try parasailing, maybe now I have a good reason to

also, playing video games without clipping, i have a lot of memories of that
If you’re gonna microwave that burrito, I want you to poke holes in the plastic wrapping because they explode. And I'm tired of cleaning up your little burrito doings. You dig me?

I had a student who couldn't walk through walls no matter what we tried. I finally had her spend a minute every night before bed pushing against her bedroom wall and concentrating on feeling the force of the wall pushing back through her fingers.

I'm a big fan of excercises like this. Practice in real life until you get the feelings down, and then try it in the dream so you can compare.

Real life experiences for me that have helped? Surfing, hang gliding, sculpting & drawing/painting.

Those are some great ideas. For me, painting would be a great dreamsign cause I have 0 artistic talent!
