      Trouble stabalizing my lucid dreams

once i become lucid i am now able to remain lucid for a decent period of time and for a short period of time the dream is stable and vivid. however i often forget that i am in a dream. i am concious but not aware i am dreaming, the dream stays just as vivid but am no longer aware i am dreaming. how can i ensure that i remain lucid? any personal effective methods you would care to share?

This one works really well for me. Close your eyes and say, "Increase Clarity." Or, "More Vividness". Then open your eyes.
Jen was 13 years old. A fairly normal girl. She spent a lot of time online.
One day, she made a new friend. He liked the same bands, worried about the same subjects.
They decided to meet at the local mall. She went. So did he.
Only he wasn't in junior high.
HE WAS A 1500 LB GRIZZLY BEAR.
1 in 5 children online get eaten by wild bears. And you didn't even know bears could type.

When I become lucid and realize it is a dream I change how I think and react to the dream world. I think of it as a dream and not real life. And all of my thoughts or words reflect that. For example, instead of saying, "What is that guy doing?" I say, "What is that dream guy doing?" Or, instead of seeing my sister and thinking "Yahoo, Wendy is here!" I think "Wendy is in my dream. Cool." If things are weird or very true to life say, "this is a weird (or really realistic) dream." Instead of thinking it is weird or realistic. I constantly remind myself that it is a dream. I think in terms of it being a dream. Is this clear?

I usually go along with my dreams and don't change much, but generally I stay lucid even when I play along. I almost never loose lucidity except when something happens in the dream that in waking life I would be scared or mad about. Like last night I lost lucidity for a few minutes because I saw my cat jump out a window. I didn't loose lucidity for long, though. When I looked out and saw that the yard was different from my real yard I went back to having a LD. Last night, I also lost lucidity for a few seconds when some DCs made me really mad. But when I looked around and realized that my house in the dream wasn't my house in waking life I got lucid again.

That is a good idea, seeker28. You are a genius.

I sometimes see the people in my dreams as dream characters and really take in the dream scene and what's going on around me. Never thought to actually use that as a way of staying lucid though.

To stay lucid I seem to have picked up the habit of singing a song that has to do with dreaming. I think in my last couple of DILDs I did this and it worked.

I wouldn't recommend this! It may work for some, but in most cases closing your eyes murders lucids. When most people close and open their eyes, it seems their physical eyes want to open too and they wake up. If not, they tend to lose lucidity. However, the other advice such as shouting "Clarity Now!" "Increase Clarity!" etc, are excellent advice!

Or, alternatively, just think of our very own Clarity when Dreaming and see how that works out!

And I too agree, awesome idea Seeks #2

I think I've kind of informally practiced something like what seeker28 describes, saying something regarding the dream-ness of it all frequently in my longer lucids.

A more recent lucid-stabilizing technique I've found is giving yourself a specific agenda, and thinking about/incubating it before you go to bed. That allows my lucids to last however long it takes to fulfill that agenda, and they tend to be pretty vivid, too. I got it to work with attempted dream sex, the November lucid tasks, and two episodes of trying to contact my dream guide. Those dreams were relatively long and stable, because I wasn't willing to give up lucidity until I'd gotten who/what I wanted.

No dream goals at the moment...just flying and letting stuff happen is kinda fun, and it's hard to motivate myself to try LDing lately.

What ISC^^^said. Have a goal, and try to keep your mind on it. That way you accomplish something, and it will help you stay lucid at the same time.

Once in a dream, stretch your out arms and look at your palms. Try to stand/sit still while doing so. Keep on looking till the dream becomes stable.

Having a goal each night works for me, too!
