Hey Rookybeats..thought I'd give you my own answers...

1) if you think something is going to hurt...it will! I've dived through glass and felt nothing, because I knew i was just going to go straight through. Basically...the pain feels how you think it feels and will only hurt if you think it will!

2) Dream Journalling IS CRITICAL to remembering your dreams. But you must be using some form of reality checking too, otherwise you will have no lucid dreams to remember!

as for how long; it varies from person to person. However to increasew your chances you should

-Keep a Dream Journal (as you are)
-get between 7-8 hours sleep a night
-Frequently observe reality and test it
-keep a regular sleep pattern (ie. a constant bedtime)
-Think about dreaming during the day

If you do these things then you are well set up...and then its just a matter of persistance. Keep your reality checks focussed and observe!

(i would say you could try an aditional induction method...but before trying what us dreamers call "Wake Back To Bed" WBTB techniques YOU MUST develop good reality checking habits or you risk failing every time)

Goodluck!
