      How Do You Stay Motivated?

Being an extremely inexperienced lucid dreamer (and being a bit of a lazy whiner, too...), I sometimes find my motivation to keep trying for an LD flagging. I know that an LD in itself should be enough motivation, but when it isn't, what does everybody do to keep themselves going?

      Hey there,

Personally, I find it very useful to learn to appreciate dreams in their totallity, rather then focus too much on only the lucid dreams. There's value in every dream you have, and a lot to learn from them which you can use towards lucidity as well.

Focussing solely on the lucid parts, I can imagine would be a frustrating experience if lucidity doesn't come.

      Just my 2 cents,

Hi, U are only human to loose motivation because what Ur trying to persue is non-physical and U don't see it or feel it until U achieve it...Tough! What I do is not to focus entirely on being lucid...it will only wear out Ur motivation. Instead I focus on the reason for being lucid(IMPORTANT)...what do I hope to achieve, where do I want to go when I'm lucid and most importantly what RC am I gonna use to determine lucidity based on intuition and past experiences and the way I'm gonna implement the RC in real life...daytime? Or when I'm about to sleep? In other words keep Ur mind busy with ideas on how to lucid dream....be creative....

Very good point...as I read your reply, I remembered the times when I just sat back to enjoy dreaming for its own sake, and realized that my motivation was just fine when I at least had some entertaining dreams to write down. I suppose I should stop sacrificing writing in my dream journal for the sake of making MILD/WILD attempts.

      Thanks!

      And thanks to imj, too!

I don't keep motivated. I keep starting to think that trying to have an LD will require too much effort during the day, or too much self-deprivation of sleep, and I may still not have one anyway, and this pushes me into dry spells.

What restores my motivation is realizing that I haven't had a lucid dream in, say, a week, and wanting to get out of that funk so I can build dreaming skills.

I was hoping that DreamViews adoptees would help keep me motivated, so I could try in order to develop wisdom to share with them, but they weren't enough last night.

No dream goals at the moment...just flying and letting stuff happen is kinda fun, and it's hard to motivate myself to try LDing lately.
