      Hoping to Fly

I've just started trying to LD. I've had a few brief FAs and LDs so far, and I'm hoping to work my way up to flying.

However, I used to occasionally LD in childhood, and I can vivdly remember one attempt to fly. I started by running, then leapt up, travelled for maybe 30-50 feet before coming back down, then could bounce back up and keep going that way. While it was a great feeling, I was disappointed that I never managed full flight.
Anyone else had something like this, and does it usually lead to real flight? Or should I try a different method than the running take-off?

      Cheers,

      Alex

I haven't attempted to fly yet, but i've read a technique in which you look up at the sky and stare at a cloud, imagine it coming closer and closer, when it's close enough look down and you're flying.

Or just jump off a building

I haven't got an LD yet, but here is some philosophical advice from me:

Don't think you can fly, know you can fly.

If you give yourself an option of failure, 99% of the time you'll fail in an LD

Or alternatively fly some other way, eg. getting a dream character to throw you

      DILD(s) = 3

Third one was really short and unstable

If you wish, you can use a real life device to give you a step up. Something like a jet pack or a plane. Once you are flying, theres no stopping you. The same would be true if you did the super jump from a really high place. You would have enough time to fly.

      Swim-like flying technique :)

Whilst being lucid try to "swim" in the air, just like you normally do on the swimmingpool. You'll find it very easy, because you already know the feeling of swimming... (frog stroke work best for me )

Try not to do wanytihng else while flying as well, because that tends to drag you down.

I had several flying non-lucid dreams as a child as well. I remember the feeling was SO INCREDIBLY INTENSE it felt like I was on a roller coaster. My stomache would feel like it was filled with butterflies. They were very scary to me back then, but now that I am practicing lucid dreaming (does a reality check), I am so pumped to fly again!

I learned to fly by the run-and-jump technique when I was a child during a series of LDs. For me, it helped to do it gradually, made it less frightening. Now I fly regularly, by the swim-method usually. I do agree that doubt makes it really hard. But when I was "learning" to fly I didn't feel any doubt, it just made sense to me that it would take a few nights' effort.
