      How about you?

I think it'd be fun to hear about everybodys life experiences, and what ultimately brought them here. For reference I'll go through myself with background information and then more specific recent events that 'brought' me here.

i was born in spokane, washington. adopted within 2 weeks, my mother was too young to support me at the time. lived in brooklyn, NYC until I was 4. Moved to maryland, mostly throughout that time I didn't spend much time thinking about this stuff since i was just a little kid, though I had certain questions and thoughts in my mind that remained unanswered because of my inability to put them to words. became moderately depressed at the age of 14 due to moving schools and losing all my friends, withdrew into my house for 2 years (besides for school everyday). At this point when I spent most of my time on the computer playing games to pass my time, I also began unconciously attempting to control my dreams, except I wouldnt think about doing it while I was waking, but in my dream a point would come where my conciousness would break through and I was able to make concentrated decisions.
Moved back to maryland after 2 years due to my depression and my fathers depression. Around the age of 16 I started to recreationally smoke bud, and this became more and more a part of my life. I was stabbed last summer, the story behind it is long and to be honest I've told it so many times sometimes I wish it hadnt happened. This incedent I think was a big milestone in my life, though not always looked upon as a good thing, it was more of an awakening for me. A year after this I was sent away to Arizona for "rehabilitation", due to post-traumatic stress from being stabbed. They teach the way of the Anasazi Indians, and their beleifs, which most of my foundation beliefs are based on.
And recently, I have become so tired and frustrated with the outside world, I've decided to come back to myself, and learn more.

i understand if this isn't a normal topic, but i'd like to see if theres any correlation between people here, or its completely random and we just share a similar train-of-thought.

its not so much that this isnt a normal topic, as we have tons of those around here, but moreover that this same things has been done by the majority of people here already in other topics...

      ill reply anyway:
i was brought to dreamviews by way of my friend Su-Chan, who is no longer active in this forum...i had been lucid dreaming for the majority of my life (im a natural )...lucid dreams, to me, are a refuge from everything else in the world...if life gets too stressful and i cant take it anymore, ive been known to sleep entire days away...

Wow, greysoaringeagle, my story isn't nearly as interesting.

I remember LDing a lot as a kid, so I guess you *could* say I'm a natural. Except then I got caught up in 'real' life and didn't really have the time or even desire to pursue LDing. I didn't actually know there was a name for this until a couple of years ago. But, anyway, now that it's summer and I have plenty of time, I plan on regaining my ability to LD.. although it hasn't been as easy as I'd hoped. Then again, I've only been at it a few days. We'll see how it goes.

I hope LDing helps you in terms of releaving stress and such. How often can you do it?

depends...i find the easiest way for my to attain LDs is to oversleep...like after you sleep your 8-10 hours a night...just go back to sleep...around 13-15, if its quiet, you can force your body to go to sleep, which it deosnt really want to do...this makes lucid dreams very very easy, but the problem is, i sleep light as a feather when i do...the littlest noise or movement can wake me up and ruin my fun ;p

...see, this method prettymuch shoots most of my day, so i only do it when i really need to escape....but as far as i can recall, everytime i try this it deos in fact work...

The thing is I've never actually made the concious decision to have lucid dreams, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't.
I usually have NO dreams on nights I smoke, so I'm trying to cut back even though I think it will always be apart of me are they red? heh
anyways, as a kid I used to get what is refered to as "night terror"(I think?), instead of nightmares. These are reaccuring nightmares, for example I would wake up and be screaming, then be afraid to fall back asleep because I knew I would be back in the same situation (at the time I hadn't the thought of attemping to control my dreams). Also, a couple times my parents told me I would wake them up screaming, they would come into my room and I would be laying down screaming, they would shake me to what seemed "awake", where I would be sitting upright and eyes open, except I would still be dreaming (for example, dont remember specifics but I saw people coming down my hallway, which was long and directly infront of my door). Weird stuff eh? I think they just went away though... I'm not sure, think I'll ask them tonight what ever happened with that.

As far as complete control over my dreams, I've never had that experience, but certain situations in my dreams seem to invoke my conciousness to take control. Like if I'm in a state of extreme fear where I feel there is no way to change it, I force myself awake (not sure if that counts as control over my dream tho ). One time I had a dream that I knew there was danger and threat to myself, I told myself I needed a weapon, and then I reached into my pocket and I pulled out a gun. I woke up and remembered that and proud for some reason?

I had the exact same "night terrors" as a kid as well, and then they just disappeared. It used to be so easy to lay down and be right back in the last dream.. which was frightening then, but probably would have been a great advantage for me now.

Do you have those semi-lucid dreams often? If so, I think just finding this site and reading up on some things here will automatically make ya more lucid. I'd usually just have regular dreams before I joined the site, and now I'm having some messed up, semi-lucid, semi-WILD type things. Come to think of it, I'm kind of a mess! lol

Before coming here, yes I had several semi-lucid dreams.
Maybe starting a dreamlog and focusing more on actual control then I can explore more.

the first time i heard of lucid dreaming i was at an alien abduction site. ive taken tons of tests to see if i was abducted. according to the test results i was way above the average score i had like 80% chance i was abducted i think that it said alien abductees have a higher chance of being lucid in dreams and are more into stuff like astral projection and remote viewing.
so anyway i thought that it ment clear dreams later my brother some how got interested in lucid dreaming and told me more about it so that night i had one.

lol well the test did say 80%!!!

I know what you meant though. Some people are just interested in it and curious to explore and investigate. I don't know..

I first came to lucid dreaming... wow, I don't remember. I was maybe 10 when I first, *somehow*, got on a lucid dreaming site. I looked around and it seemed very interesting. After trying the wrong technique (I was stupid) and not being committed (a few days of work... about 2 reality checks/day), I eventually forgot about it.

Then, my friend says he has a dream that he knew he was in a dream. I said, "oh, so you had a lucid dream". "What's a lucid dream?" blah, blah blah.. He was very intrigued that it's a proven state of conciousness, so many have done it, it's learnable, etc.. From that, I got into it as well, along with the other 3 of us (at the time)..

THEN I eventually got out of it again recently, but I'm coming back to the forums. Maybe I'll start up again and really try.
