      When I was younger.....

When I was younger I used to get myself to sleep by picturing things in my mind. I would just let random pictures appear i my head, and I would usually get to sleep reasonably quickly. Now when I was younger I was also able down to a tee to get myself out of dreams -usually if I didnt like them- I would do something like blink and it would be guaranteed to get me out of the dream and i would be back in my bed. I guess I realised that I was dreaming a lot....but that never occured to me......
Does this seem to you a bit like almost lucid dreaming? I dont know if the picturing thing had nything to do with it......but ny thoughts?

      Question ?

Is this similar to wake induced lucid dreaming?

This sounds like hypnagognic imagery, a normal occurance as you are falling asleep.

Yep, this is the same thing I used to do as a kid. If I was having a scary dream, I would will myself to wake up. I knew I was dreaming enough to know I needed to wake up, so yes, I'd classify it as a lucid dream.

Hope that helps! Sorry your original post didn't get any replies

You can use those times that previously you would have woken yourself up to become lucid.

Now that I know that, I don't seem to have those kind of dreams nearly as often.

I also agree that it would be hypangognic imagery.

I did the same thing as well. Though whenever I wanted to leave the dream as a child I would just close my eyes and force myself to wake up. I don't know if I would consider those times to be lucid that knew that I was dreaming, but that all I knew is that I wanted to wake up, and i did.
