Is Galantamine an over-the-counter drug?

i think so, theres some website about a product called brilliant dreams so Im assumig its over the counter

sounds interesting, but I don't want to run the risk of some nasty long-term side effect until it becomes FDA approved.

Good point, I was going to pick some up this week at the same time I got my vitamins, but I may just stick with the latter for now.

Wait, it has Side effects? besides awesome dreams and shit?

It mentions affecting metabolism, but that's short term, it could have a greater effect down the track.

My general rule of thumb on ingesting chemicals is to assume dangerous until proven safe. When LSD was first discovered it was a huge thing that everyone tried until they said "Oh wait! apparently it permanently damages your brain! guess we should have done a bit of research first, huh?"

Galantamine is approved by the FDA, as well as drug administrations in many other countries, as a drug for treatment of Alzheimer's disease. So what exactly is your standard for a "safe" drug, and how do you "prove" it?

So? As far as I can see there are no common side effects that are serious enough that they require medical attention. Have you checked the side effects of, for example, the common allergy medication Zyrtec? Or any other common OTC drug that you might have taken? Face it, whatever substance you are ingesting, from ice cream to LSD, you are taking a non-zero risk. And when it comes to assessing risk versus benefit, most people don't think rationally.
