Gonna Give It a Shot Tonight!

All I'm doing for this New Year's Eve is watch the creepy ball thing on TV and have some wine (champaign is a bit weird imo...wine is good stuff ) So I'm gonna WBTB: go to sleep at the usual time, wake up for the midnight celebration, then go back to sleep, maybe try to WILD.

...would the wine hinder it? I won't have much being only 17, not legal, less than a full glass, but still...it is wine...

I seriously doubt that a little wine is going to effect very much especially after sleeping for a while.Do your WBTB and post how it goes. I'm curious to see what it'll do.

Pretend you are in Germany. Legal drinking age is 16 there.

I'm going to bed at normal time and waking at midnight just like you! XD

Alcohol is a depressant, but I doubt it'll have much effect on you by the time you are ready to WILD. If you were legal, I'd suggest drinking it earlier in the night so that it will not affect later sleep cycles negatively (if you are that worried). How long are you planning to stay asleep? It'll only take a couple hours for that much alcohol to filter out. I got that from a website. I wouldn't know how reliable the info is; I don't drink.

I'm not too worried about the alcohol, I just wanted to make sure, and you guys seem sure it won't prevent lucid dreaming

      ...well...gave it a shot anyway

I ended up not having wine...I'm thinking maybe it would have helped...also maybe talking to my friend on the phone wasn't a good idea, but she's the one who called so...

So I went to bed at 9 something, I was in the beginnign stages of dream when Mom woke me up at 11:50 like I asked her to. I watched the weird ball in Times Square and bad singers and all that and talked to my friend on the phone like I said, then went back to sleep a few minutes past midnight. I aly on my back, contrary to my usual position of laying on my stomach. I breathed and told myself not to be scared I was gonna lucid dream that night. I didn't move a muscle, following the technique of tricking your body into falling asleep before the mind does.

What a frustrating experience! I got so pissed off. So, it was like my whole body was tensed up, except I was just lying there not tensed up, but it felt like it was. It was so terribly uncomfortable but I told myself this is how it's supposed to be. I got some major itches which really pissed me off but I was determined not to give up, which actually frustrated me more. Several times I told myself to not be pissed since I was gonna lucid dream and while it worked temporarily I wasn't falling into lucid dream at all. I didn't move beyond the whole highly uncomfortable body heaviness stage. Several times it seemed like I was but never quite. I imagined myself in a dreamscape but while I was having some good imaginings it didn't become reality. It didn't help that the whole time I was aware of the freakign sounds of Mom and my sister int he next room and the fact that I was sleeping on my bed. I was capable of forgeting I was on the bed, but the sounds! And god the discomfort!!! (You can see why I'm thinking I should have had some depressant )

Eventually I got fed up and went to sleep normally, hoping just the fact that I WBTB would give me some sort of lucid dream. I dreamt, and did do some thinking of my own, but not regarding the dream itself (couldn't see the forest for the trees) so yea, no lucid that night. But I gave it a shot, I must have endured that discomfort for 10 minutes or so, pretty good for my first serious try I'd say Unfortuantly I think that maybe if I'd held on another 10 minutes I would have fallen into lucid REM, it kind of seems like that's how long it took me to fall into my non-lucid REM last night.

Oh well, I think I'll try it again tonight, maybe have a lot of chocolate or somehting since there's no occasion for wine Meantime, any tips would be appreciated

You can't concentrate on your body so much. It's hard to explain, but you must not only ignore it, but also forget you are ignoring it. Here's the difference:

"I feel discomfort! The tutorial said that should happen, so I know I'm on the right track! But I should ignore it and not move! ... Is it still there? Yup..."

"I feel discomfort! I should forget about it by focusing completely on breathing/counting/visualization!"

The main difference is in italics. The first one brings the discomfort to you, because all you think is "I must not move to alleviate the pain." You end up thinking more about the pain. You have to keep focused on something detached from your body to get rid of its sensations. Most importantly, don't stress. If it takes you more than five minutes to get comfortable enough to just lie there, go to bed; it isn't worth it, and you probably won't WILD due to your negative thoughts.

Thanks, that helps a lot I guess the main thing is to be able to forget I'm ignoring it It's some real prevalent discomfort for sure!

good god, it is boring for sure. I may try music, the thing is I love music so much I may focus too much on it If anyone can prove it would work anyway I might try it.

I don't think music would be very helpful with a wild just because you would be focasing on an external input which would keep you tied up in the real world. On the other hand it might keep you occupied until enter a dream. I don't know try it there's no sense in not trying it may be you'll make a big discovery. It's a good idea because everyone knows how god awfully boring a wild can be. Don't give up though once you figure it all out you'll have a very powerful tool in your arsenal of lucid dreaming

The music thing is interesting..I was attempting to WILD and I had a lucid induction song (I figured I'd give it a try) playing. Then my iTunes switched it to the next song, but instead of moving, I decided I'd go with it...what i did was in my visualization imagined myself dancing to the music even though my real body couldnt dance, it was really enjoyable, vivid and i was not at all focused on the body discomfort. What i had hoped for was that i would end up dancing in a lucid dream after visualizing it, but i had to get up unexpectedly... I think this has a shot at becoming a new WILD method...(Rhythm Induced Lucid Dream)?)

Well tonight I'll try WBTB/WILD again, when I wake up I'll eat some chocolate and maybe some snack food before that then go back to bed and really focus on visualizing myself interacting in a dreamscape it should work if I try/don't-try-to-hard since I get real vivid daydreams often. Maybe I'll play some music too. Come to think of it most of the time when I daydream there's music involved...

Maybe tonight I'll be in a more vivid version of my happy place eh? I'd really love to sit under a tree in a field by a river, maybe run in the field, maybe have a dream boyfriend with me, maybe meet dream-Audrey Hepburn if I remember/feel like it

Well i tried to WILD with music, but suddently just woke up and the music was off. But i wasnt really concentrating much on the breathing because of the music. But i almost made it on the couch ;D

I actually had a LD this night, but it turned into a false awakening, i dreamed that i saw my mother in the door and then i "woke up" and just saw black as i would if i close my eyes. So i did a RC but i didnt focus on it so i just went to sleep again. But i know now i was dreaming.
