      Typing from within a dream?

Okay, this may sound crazy at first, but just hear me through. Why wouldn't it be possible to type out your dream as it happened?

This idea just came to me in, of all places, the shower. I know, I know, but I do my best thinking in the shower. Here's what I'm thinking: if you had good enough control, and slept sort of sitting half up, with your keyboard in your lap, why couldn't it work? Now, obviously you'd have to be able to type flawlessly without seeing the keys, which I can't, but certainly can learn to. I've noticed countless times during a lucid dream that I can feel my body outside the dream, from within the dream. I think that if my dream control were just a hair better, I could move my body without waking up. Is there any real, scientific reason this shouldn't theoretically work? Or is this just a crazy idea? Not get up and walk around, that would be dangerous obviously. But just moving your fingers, why not?

If you had your computer ready to go, word processor open and ready to input text, and your keyboard in your lap with your hands resting on the keys, and used the WILD technique, I see this being totally possible. I have in fact moved slightly without waking up before, while in a lucid dream, and been able to feel my body. I'm sure a lot of you have as well. Now, imagine doing that on purpose, and having your dream control developed enough to maintain your dream as you do so. I'm not far from that point myself, I think. Imagine having an in-depth conversation with your dream guide, and transcribing every word as it is spoken. Imagine writing a poem within the dream world, when your creativity is at its peak, and simultaneously recording it in real life. Just think of the possibilities! As soon as I can train myself to type without looking at the keys properly, and can discover the secret to WILDing, I want to try this.

I apologize if I'm not very coherent, I typed this up in a bit of a hurry, as I want to get this down before I miss something. Maybe this is just a brain fart, and I'm overlooking some obvious reason this wouldn't work, but please, flood me with your thoughts on this!

Yes, that would be the main issue.

      One acronym: FILD.

Would sleep paralysis really interfere? It's just your fingers. The whole basis for the finger-induced lucid technique relies upon being able to move your fingers, correct? I'm almost positive that I have moved my fingers while in a dream before, without waking up, if inadvertently.

FILD doesn't involve actually moving your fingers, just barely sending the impulse.

And FILD is for moving your fingers while awake. The moment you fall asleep, you'll stop moving them. The finger movements only serve as a way to keep conscious while entering a dream.

      Darn.

And I had such high hopes that this wasn't a stupid idea.

Wouldn't recommend having your cpu anywhere near you when sleeping.

Hahaha! I saw that for the first time last week, flipping through xkcd at random, and thought about this thread.
