      "Manually" ending dreams.

This is my first time I've posted, and ive never had any real lucid experience in dreams until lately. About 6 months ago I was a victim of a random attack and was left in the hospital with a pretty badly fractured skull. After a plastic surgeon, neurologist, dentist, opthalmologist, physical therapist, psychiatrist and a psychologist, im pretty much 99% recovered. Believe me it makes you look at life in a whole differet perspective. So about 2 weeks after the incident I began having trouble sleeping, then lots of nightmares that kept me up, nothing specific, or recurring. About a month ago I was having a nightmare and at somepoint in the dream I bacame aware that it was a dream, and kept screaming to myself, "wake up, wake up"!.... and I did. I never thought about it too much, but its happaned a few times the last month. But more and more they are happening more frequently.
Last night it happened a few times- The dreams don't necessarily start as nightmares- but if in the dream I sence that they are getting dark or if I am unsure of the dream- ill become lucid and wake myself up... and I do. and NOW it's something that I do in my dreams when they are just dreams I dont care for. Last night I was having a dream about being on some island with my family - not really a bad dream but just kinda boring. so I started screaming "wake up, wake up" and woke myself up. and then went back to sleep when the dream continues, in a much more fabulous island resort- still with my family. i know silly right? Leaving the island the plane starts having trouble and i can sence there is some type of monster thing involved and is about to crash (OK so im a big fan of the TV show Lost lol), and i wake myself up.... and then when i go back to bed its post accident and me and my family are safe..... at one point i realized that yeah it was a dream (at that point i ussualy wake myself up- but this time i tried to do things that were dream like - fly, move things)

anyone have any idea what to call that type of control? and YES i was completely awake when i woke up- it wasnt one of those things where you are awake in dream lol. I got up between them, went to the bathroom, check my blackberry, the time, and so forth.

The type of control you have is lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming is just dreaming aware that you are dreaming. Many people just use this to have fun is their dreams. The only difference is you wake yourself up, when you could be having fun! Try not waking yourself up and explore!

It is a very hard transition to make between waking yourself up and actually turning round and facing whatever you are up against.

Once you have managed to gain confidence in your dreams these 2 things will happen:

      1) You will no longer have nightmares. Ever.

      2) You will be able to lucid dream much more often.
