"Dream Catchers"

Hi! I recently stumbled across a internet link that talks about "dream catchers" Do any of you have any knowledge on this topic?

They are catalysts of thought. If you put the intended thought into them, the proper result will occur: nightmares will "become tangled in the web," and good dreams will "pass through the middle" and down the feathers. Also, figure out what I mean by "catalysts of thought."

nlmgr, I have a couple of dreamcatchers and I rarely have nightmares as well (and while it may simply be coincidence or "all in your head".. isn't that where your dreams are)?! Per Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamca...ve_American%29): Dreamcatchers originated in the Ojibwa Nation. Traditionally, the Ojibwa construct dreamcatchers by tying sinew strands in a web around a small round or tear-shaped frame (in a way roughly similar to their method for making snowshoe webbing). The resulting "dream-catcher", hung above the bed, is then used as a charm to protect sleeping children from nightmares. The Ojibwa believe that a dreamcatcher filters a person's dreams. "Only good dreams would be allowed to filter through . . . Bad dreams would stay in the net, disappearing with the light of day." Another legend (Lakota), according to St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota, "Good dreams pass through the center hole to the sleeping person. I've always wanted one, but I've only seen cheesy crap ones. I gotta find some made by real native americans.

I love these things!! I have a tiny one above my bed. I doubt the thing itself has any sort of powers, but I still really like having it there for its cultural value. It hasn't caught too many of my nightmares, but maybe that's because of its small size.

nlmgr, I have a couple of dreamcatchers and I rarely have nightmares as well (and while it may simply be coincidence or "all in your head".. isn't that where your dreams are)?! Maybe it's like a placebo effect? While you are dreaming you think that you are protected from nightmares by the dreamcatcher, so those dreams don't turn into a nightmare (often).

I like to make dream-catchers. It is an art form, you can experiment with different designs and materials, and decorate them in different ways.

They catch your nightmares and help you to dream. It's a shame really, they were a cool native american thing that got commercialised. The thing with them is that they may only work because you want them to work.
