Thread: a question on becoming lucid

i think i had a lucid dream but i can't be sure.
i had a dream were if i closed my eyes and thought of a place i could go there. in the middle of doing that i thought ' hey i'm lucid' then i remembered what i read about 'if you panic when you realise you have become lucid you might stop being lucid' so i said to my self ' calm down so you can remain lucid'- and it worked!
so the question is- was i really lucid or just dreaming of being lucid...

this is always hard to tell but to me it sounds pretty much as if you were lucid!!!

Yes it sounds like a lucid.

SapphireGem, lucidity has nothing to do with "control" (meaning that you can be in a lucid dream.. but still not be able to affect any changes).

Lucid dreaming is merely the "awareness" that you are dreaming WHILE you're dreaming.

Did you ever say (or think) to yourself, "I'm dreaming?" and, if so, did you BELIEVE this statement/thought to be true? If so, then you were definately lucid.

Next time, if you're in doubt, do a "reality check". The reality check that has never failed me is the "plug my nose and see if I can breathe" reality check. It never hurts to do your favorite reality check a couple of times or even do two different ones.. just to really convince yourself!

th reality check sounds like a good idea, but i don't think it occured to me in the dream... maybe i have to do more reality checks

I would say that no, it isn't possible. Here's a post I made on this exact topic a few weeks ago. The second part refers to something the OP in that thread mentioned, but it is still relevant to this discussion because I believe this is one of common reasons why beginners are often confused about whether or not they were "really lucid."

By the way, with the exception of some of the high-level, hyperrealistic lucids, all lucid memories are remembered "like a normal dream."
