      Was it Lucid?

Ok so i had a weird ass dream last night...im not sure on whether it was a dream/real/ or lucid dream...

ok so i just out my phone down, and didnt seem to have left it for a couple of seconds before i decided to get a drink, i got up out of bed and was pushed back onto the bed violently. i tried getting back up but i couldnt and was held down on the bed... i started struggling in bed and shouted out, i managed to scream "MA...(matt my brother)" but suddenly i couldnt speak, i grabbed at my throat and tried to scream again, suddenly it was hard to breathe, and i screamed so violently and struggled in bed hitting (what i presume is the air? ) and i was let go of....

i then text my boyfriend because i was freaked out....

wtf? so was this real lucid dream?! or just a normal dream?! im not sure.....last time i looked at my phone was 12:25 and i put it down to go sleep...and when i text my boyfriend because i was scared it was 12:28....surely i couldnt have got into a deep REM sleep after 3 mins?

If you're questioning whether you were lucid or not you probably weren't.

That is strange. I don't know if it's possible to even dream in three minutes, let alone have an LD. Then again, much of my knowledge is limited, so I may be wrong. Did you feel conscious during that time? (If that makes sense.)

In order for it to be a lucid dream, you have to know you are dreaming while you are dreaming. So that doesnt seem to be the case. And you were only asleep for what, 3 min? that doesnt seem like nearly enough time to go back to sleep and dream. Its a possiblity, but not a very likely one. There leaves only 2 logical options.

      1. You were dreaming the whole time. You dreamed that before you were held in bed, and It seemed so life like, that you thought you were awake.

      2. You had a bad experience with sleep paralisis. It kinda sounds like the old hag syndrom. The old hag isnt an actual person or spirit or any humbo jumbo like that. Its just your mind making up a bad experience for the paralisis that happens from the onset of REM.

those are the 2 explanations that i can think of. Just make sure you know the difference between a lucid dream and this. A lucid dream is knowing you are dreaming, while you are dreaming. This was just a bad experience.

i had a back problem and was prescribed loritabs(sp?) and had a number of similar experiences. i think it is sleep paralisis, too. i felt like i couldn't breathe and i was being held down. i couldn't scream and that really freaked me out. it took coming here to be able to identify what that was.

      Hmm.

I've never had any lucid dreams, but I have had lucid experiences in dreams...

I do know for a fact, though, that you can REM within seconds of falling asleep - I've started dreaming while still falling asleep many, many times before now.
