      Am I doing something wrong?

I just got up from another failed WILD.

I'm starting to get a bit frustrated with it now.

      Here's what I do:

I go lie on the couch, with a blanket to keep me warm, and I lie on my back with my hands by my side. I concentrate on nothing. This keeps my mind alert, I find. Then, I start to feel this wave of energy come over me, and I get vague flashing lights in my vision. My skin becomes really sensitive, and if my breathing is moving my arm slightly against the blanket, the sensation is almost unbearable. Then, it all just... fades. And If I stay there for longer, it happens again, only to fade once more. And It continues until I try to do an RC.

This happens over and over. Every night.

Please, if I'm doing something stupid or wrong, let me know D:
      I want to get lucid!

      Help me out fellow dreamers.

Ok first of all did you do this in the middle of the night after you woke up?

Well you could attempt wild in a diffrent way, for example I don't use thinking about nothing to have a WILD/DEILD I imagine myself riding a bike, and I practice imagening myself riding a bike in the daytime so it's very vivid in my mind.

But yeah if it was a WBTB how long did you wait after you woke up to try it?

      Hi Scar,

unfortunately you may have to just keep practicing a little more. I can't tell for sure, but it's possible you're getting a little too excited right about the time you experience the flashing lights and unltra sensitivity (in anticipation of accomplishing the WILD). When you start getting that "something is happening" feeling, that's when you need to just relax and observe, let it play out. Almost forget a little bit at what you're trying to accomplish, or else you'll become more alert. Too much alertness will keep you awake.

Frustration will kill the experience and force you to start from the beginning. Think of those failures as getting one step closer to your goal, rather than just having to start all over.

And that's what I need to practice more on. Sometimes I can stay calm and go into SP successfully, but other times, I feel that strange numbing wave of energy fog up my chest, and I know that is when the pins and needles are coming on. I usually get excited at this point and it fades away. Other times, I don't catch it at first because I'm in such a trance, and it just takes off from there and I get the pins and needles feeling all over, along with the "iron blanket." That's when I go into SP, and from there, a dream.

I'm not WBTBing. I find I get a lot further without it. Maybe I am just getting over excited. I dunno. I'll keep trying.

What I do know, is that I'm quite good at getting to the HI and SP stage

Shame I can't go lucid though.

Is it possible that I'm waiting too long to try a roll out? Is there a window there that closes after you wait too long, making it impossible to get in?

      Thanks guys.

Well without a WBTB, WILDing is incredibly hard, perhaps even impossible for most people. Some people can do it apparently, but for your first WILD your chance is very very very slim.

The reason being that you don't enter REM right away. But if you sleep for a few hours first, I like 6 myself, then wake up and try to WILD you will enter REM. If your getting so far without a WBTB, you may be able to succeed with one.

Even if you don't, don't sweat it. It took me over 2 months to get my first WILD, and I tried almost every day. The main thing is you will get there eventually.

So is there a window of oppertunity to get into a lucid dream that can be missed if you wait too long?

      I think so, yes.

Because you may start dreaming, but not realize it so you continue to lie on your dream bed. Then you drift back awake since your not doing anything in the dream. It's hard to say though, since if this does happen, you have no way of knowing if it happened or not.

Hmm. That may possibly be what's happening. I occationally feel like im waking up when I WILD. And the time passes pretty quickly. Not sure if that's normal. =/

How do I know when to try to roll out?
