      "The Village"

Okay...I just finished watching that movie and it ended up being a very good movie. Now, I don't think I'll have any real nightmares about it, but I have a question.

If any of those "creatures" pop up what should I do? They're covered in spikes so I don't know if I can touch them. Should I pull a gun? If you could answer me asap, that'd be good because I'm just about to go to bed.

I really want to see that movie, but im so afraid of nightmares ensuing. Im a sucker for scary movies, especially monsters(watching "signs" was enough for me to cower in the corner). I'll only go if one of my friends comes with me so i can cuddle....

btw..what would you rate it on a scale of 1-10?

EDIT: oops. i forgot to answer the question. If you somehow turn lucid and they are their, then use weapons, or powers. Dont physically touch them, but it is JUST a dream so you can if you want. If i were you, I would freeze them with my time-stopping powers and then either shatter them or fry/burn them

I mean really...you can kill them in so many ways....

BUT if your not lucid and you dream about them...then you're fucked...sorry, but monsters in non-lucid dreams usually will kill you. have a nice day

Thanks. Now I can go to bed.

Anyway, the movie was very good. There were some surprises that I definately didn't expect. It brought the viewer back down at the end, though, and there wasn't some surprise cut-off ending. There was a climax, a resolution, and and ending....unlike Nightmare on Elm Street.....*runs off screaming*

gah, i didn't like that movie at all!

i would think that if you met one while lucid you wouldn't be in too much trouble... you know their secret and you can use it against them. i wont say the secret lest i ruin the film for the others... but yeah just belittle them and tell them how stupid they are.

p.s. there is no love in fear. that's what ruined the movie for me.

personally, i think they advertised that movie wrong...

at a certain point it switched entirely from a horror movie to a drama...i really cant say much due to some having not seen it, but if you think you'll be scared of these monsters, you might be during the movie, but by the time its over, you shouldnt have any nightmares at all

Jesus he is probably going to have a nightmare now, I have kind of said stuff like that before, sort of cursed people, like after something like a scary movie I tell them they will dream, theres nothing they can do about it and now that they have seen the movie and I told them they will think about it all night, and as they are falling asleep they WILL think about it, subcounsciously because I am telling you now you will have a nightmare in which you will meet "inset scary monster or buffalo bill(lol) here".

It actually works on some people, I've tried it on 4 or 5 girls and just 2 guys and I got 2 of the girls to do it and 1 guy had a nightmare but it wasn't about the movie we were watching.

hate scary movies...never,ever had a nightmare that i am aware of but a good scary movie will fuck me up for days....like when i was young and played on resident evil 1 with the first zombie you meet....boy i was checking under my bed for days. and it didnt help that a mouse had escaped into my room, scratching along the walls waking me up...
but i digress...i dont think nightmares are caused by watching scary movies,i think theyre caused by unresolved life issues and what the nightmare is depends on stuff like movies youve seen etc.

      i think.

I personally liked the movie very much. I know what point you are getting at here, but felt I needed to comment on it. I think the movie brings up this very theme - that they are using fear because of their "love" for their society. But, I think I disagree with you: The movie doesn't really promote that idea. The elder does kind of suggest thats why they did what they did, but the film merely raises that point. Is it ok to control people to keep them unfearful, even if fear is needed to do so? Is it really love? Or is it just another form of fascism? Is the end worth the means? Doesn't that contradict the whole purpose? I don't think the film really takes a position, rather it shows us an example, a metaphor. The movie also raises the issue of fear and to what extent we can be made fearful at the mere suggestion/possibility of unknown things.

No, it wasn't a scary movie, but that wasn't the purpose. I've read a lot about how people think the marketing was wrong, but let me ask you something - how much of what you wanted from the movie was based on your want/need to be scared/excited. The movie serves as a metaphor and a reflection of what we see as we peer out of our eyes.

Sorry, nothing really related to dreaming here, but I do love movies and just thought I would add my two cents.

Re: don't read unless you've seen "The Village"

I enjoyed the movie but I agree with WerBurN, this movie is advertised completely wrong. I think that's why a lot of people hated it: it's not a thriller/horror/gorey movie, it's a drama that's somewhat spooky and has with a twist, then another twist, then another . If you go expecting to be scared, you will not enjoy it.

SOMEWHAT SPOILER: And I understand why the critics didn't enjoy it: the major twist is far-fetched and somewhat funny if you think about it for a while. The elders to do that is childish and kindof like saying: BOO HOO, life sucks, let's start a new one. It's like they want to be God. Well, what happens when "The Village" is overpopulated and all the elders die? What will happen then? They will eventually go through the forbidden forest and when they reach the other side they will be lost and confused.

Though it is flawed in that sense I still enjoyed the movie and would recommended it to anyone who enjoyed "The Sixth Sense, Sings, Unbreakable (that was a litt

The Village was a great movie. But I don't know why people are so upset that it wasn't scary. Why do you let the trailer tell you what the movie should be like when you should let the movie itself do the talking?

Think about Night's other movies: Signs, Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense...they were all marketed as scary movies, but they weren't. He's about twists, not horror. I thought everyone would have that figured by now.

I did not even look at it as a horror movie. It is actually an interesting movie. I don't see why they would scare you. Even in the movie they told you that they were really a villager in a constume. There were no monsters in the movie.

The movie was a whole lot better than Signs (just because it was more logical, in Signs, it bugged me because aliens wouldn't logically attack the LEAST populated areas on earth first. Nor would they leave massive signs to give us warning that they were coming when they could just have easily used microscopic transmitters. </complaining:target=signs>), but the ending just plain SUCKED. For the dreams, just remove the outer clothing and you're left with a normal guy. Originally I was going to be a bit more cryptic about this to avoid giving away the twist, but that's already been ruined by the last posters.

So NOT scary. There were a couple of "jumps" in the beginning, but man on man was it not scary.

I still liked it though, just cuz I admire M. Night Shyamalans work.

Yeah, I agree, compeletely false advertising.

If you can't handle scary movies....you CAN handle this one, trust me.

Agreed. A few parts startle people, but after a second you realize that it wasn't really that scary. And did you not COMPLETELY forsee what Noah did to Lucious? (I don't know how to spell the names, but w/e) Anyway, I'd say to everybody that you might want to see the movie, but you might as well leave before it ends. That way you won't be as dissapointed. As a local critic stated it: "It's like a jack-in-the-box, you wind the handle and haunting music comes from the box, growing louder and louder. You wriggle with excitement as you continue to crank the box, until the top pops open and you're left sitting wondering why you ever considered picking it up in the first place."

Regardless of whether you like the content of M. Night Shyamalan's movies. No one can argue with the fact that he is an incredible director. That scene in the village is the coolest stabbing scene that I have ever witnessed on film.

Also, the cinematography in Signs is second to none (well, as far as blockbusters go anyways).

      Other great directors:
David Fincher (Fight Club, Panic Room)
Steven Spielberg (Minority Report, E.T., Close Encounters of The Third Kind)
      Richard Linklater (Waking Life)
Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogs, Kill Bill 1&2, Jackie Brown)
Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Black Hawk Down)

Yeah, I wasn't thrilled. The stabbing was brilliantly done, but from then on, there wasn't a satisfying moment in the film. It just didn't add up to anything. All it had to say was "people are very anxious right now, and are having trouble coping." The M in MKS must stand for "Master of the Obvious."
