Question Whats your flying skill level?

Hey DV members, i thought it might be cool to have a flying skill poll where everyone can post their current skill levels of flying in LD's.

      1 - I can't fly yet
2 - I can hover slightly but can't maintain it
3 - I can fly quite high but cant maintain it
      4 - If i concentrate i can maintain flight/hovering
      5 - I can initiate flight anytime i want
6 - I can fly in a variety of styles
7 - I can fly at exceptional speeds
      8 - I can fly almost anywhere i want
9 - I can fly anywhere, anytime at any speed. I am god of flight

Please pick which level best describes you, noting each level includes all the levels before it.

Also, if anyone has any awesome ideas for flight, or has had some cool experiences, please post them here.

Attempting to fly off a cliff is NOT a recommended reality check.

Level 1 - I still need to get used to the land of lucidity.

Lol, do non-lucid dreams count? I haven't thought of flying in a lucid yet. (just never occured to me when I was dreaming) But if non-lucids count I would probably be a 2.

I chose Level 6. When the situation calls for it I have no difficulty attaining flight. The only problem is the vividness, many times it is a weak and a forgettable feeling (like no wind exists).

      Level 8 for me.

I can initiate flying whenever, I can fly as fast as I want, and with pretty much perfect control. Only thing is, I haven't tried flying into space or through things yet.

Maybe there should be fewer groups for the poll.............. Otherwise, I can always fly, when I have a lucid. The latter being the problem.

First try I flew high, but later on I started to fall. So I guess level 3.

Level 2. My flying dreams have been low-lucid so as soon as I get to a certain height I get nervous and fall. Plan to work on it more, though.

I would say a level 7 or 8. Sometimes my flying can really suck and I can hardly get off the ground.

8, I guess. Once I get lucid, I have no troubles with flying at all. I can't say I mastered it, trough, accidents happen once every a while.

Cheers for all the replys guys, looks like a fairly even distribution so far, with a few people still having trouble getting off the ground.

For those that can't fly, i can't reccomend enough that you keep at it, it's by far my favorite LD activity.

As for my own level, i would probably say 7, because i cant get into space yet.

My favorite way to fly, is by using telekinesis on myself. I always suggest to people to learn to use TK, then just use it on themselves and be an instant master of flying.

Granted I haven't had a chance to try in months, back in the day it was probably a 2-3, I chose 2 for this poll.

      Er...the poll didn't have a #4 option so I just went with 3.

In non-lucids I have pretty much gone all the way to 7 but maintained flight at that stage pretty much wakes me up.

I would have to say a level 5 because I don't necessarily fly--I jump. My jumping is extreme, like a flee. I can leap over tall buildings in a single bound, if you will. If need be, I can jump far enough that one could consider it flying, e.g., jumping over farmlands in the midwest to arrive at someone's house; nevertheless, I "sense" the experience as a jump.
I would love to kiss you.
(The price of kissing is your life.)

Now my loving is running toward my life shouting,
(What a bargain, let's buy it.)

I know exactly what you mean Cypocryhpy, i do the same, sometimes i prefer jumping.

I like to combo it up by jumping as high as i want, then gliding back down.

It's like i can feel the power build up in my legs before the jump, and i know that i have the strength to jump as high as i want, its awesome.

But my fav would have to be fast, low level flight, especially over water, superman styles.

Attempting to fly off a cliff is NOT a recommended reality check.

I only started flying this month and I'm a level 5.

Flying doesn't really feel like flying to me and as a result I seem to have few restrictions. Rather than using some force to resist gravity, gravity doesn't apply to me and most of the time I don't have a body so I can just pass through stuff.

I've had 2 flying dreams in my adulthood (I recall a couple when I was very young), both were lucid. In the first one I decided to attempt to fly to confirm my lucidity (it was my first lucid dream) and I was able to take off very easily but struggled to control the flight and land.

The other time (last week) I became lucid mid-flight and was able to land. But I then had difficulty taking off again until a DC showed me how by doing a swimming motion. I woke up before attempting to land again.

Overall it's felt like I have no problem flying as long as I'm expecting it and not thinking "oh my god, is this going to work?" But once I'm flying the feeling is so cool and intense that I have difficulty not: a) waking myself up; or b) becoming so involved in the flight that I lose lucidity.
