I agree, read the book. 42 is an answer and a question. It also seems to be a somewhat mysterious number that pops in and out of places all around us and I found that once I started seeing that number, I couldn't stop seeing it places. When I say seeing it, I mean when I pay closer attention to things - try to be very consciously aware, I begin to make mental notes to myself on certain patterns I see in life and I like math a lot so I like to see number patterns. Not neccesarily look for them, just observe them. So I look at clocks and a lot of times I'll happen to glance at it when it's, say, 7:42. Or a magazine will be open and when I look at what page it's on, it is often 42. One time my old roommate/best friend and i were telling some of our friends about the 42 anomalie(sp?) - we were having dinner at a restaurant, and one of the guys is holding a fork the entire time that I notice right at the end of the conversation has a tiny 42 engraved on the bottom of the handle. It was trippy, it was cool. 8)
