Thread: question about 42

I was wondering the same thing... What's up with that?

you need to read the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy... no one tell her what the question is... you are going to have to read the books to find out. Its a very funny trilogy of 5 or 6 books (cant remember how many there are) Its sci-fi comedy with deep philosophical undertones =)

I agree, read the book. 42 is an answer and a question. It also seems to be a somewhat mysterious number that pops in and out of places all around us and I found that once I started seeing that number, I couldn't stop seeing it places. When I say seeing it, I mean when I pay closer attention to things - try to be very consciously aware, I begin to make mental notes to myself on certain patterns I see in life and I like math a lot so I like to see number patterns. Not neccesarily look for them, just observe them. So I look at clocks and a lot of times I'll happen to glance at it when it's, say, 7:42. Or a magazine will be open and when I look at what page it's on, it is often 42. One time my old roommate/best friend and i were telling some of our friends about the 42 anomalie(sp?) - we were having dinner at a restaurant, and one of the guys is holding a fork the entire time that I notice right at the end of the conversation has a tiny 42 engraved on the bottom of the handle. It was trippy, it was cool. 8)

im not saying this to say you are wrong in any way, that 42 anomoly sounds very cool...but do you think it is coincidence perhaps?

because, for example, after 9/11 every evening i looked at my clock i read 9:11... and at school...it was weird...but i think that was just because the situtation presented itself

i am not "up to speed" on this whole 42 thing...but there must be more than times and engravings on forks?

I noticed it too, I see it constantly and everywhere.


So you should get up to speed and start reading those books =) they are well worth it.

You wont look at the universe quite the same afterwards, but you will have a grin on your face

its just because you are always thinking about it. you see other numbers all the time, but you just notice it when its a 42. this is just like how my silly girlfriend always talks about how great pink and blue and green go together, and now wherever i look i always notice when those three colors are together

Great books...I'm just about to finish the fifth one for the second time (they're much better in english) I really like the beginning of the first book.

I used to see 9:11 all the time. Couple months ago. Every time i just happen to look at the clock it was 9:11. Could be the whole 2 tower thing or 911. Don't know.

I just think i trained myself (and internal clock) to watch out for this on some level of awarness
