Lightbulb Is "Strawberry Fields Forever" Based on a Lucid Dream?

      Alright folks, here's the deal.

I am almost certain that this famous song by the beatles is based of a lucid dream. I'm going to analyse some lyrics then give you my opinion. here we go:

      ------------------------------------------

Lyrics: (note: i will bold the important lyrics)

"Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields.
Nothing is real and nothing to get hung about.
      Strawberry Fields forever.

Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.
It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out.
It doesn't matter much to me.

Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields.
Nothing is real and nothing to get hung about.
      Strawberry Fields forever.

No one I think is in my tree, I mean it must be high or low.
That is you can't you know tune in but it's all right.
That is I think it's not too bad.

Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields.
Nothing is real and nothing to get hung about.
      Strawberry Fields forever.

Always no sometimes think it's me, but you know I know when it's a dream.
I think I know I mean "Yes," but it's all wrong.
That is I think I disagree.

Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields.
Nothing is real and nothing to get hung about.
      Strawberry Fields forever.
      Strawberry Fields forever.
      Strawberry Fields forever"

      -------------------------------

      Great song right?
Anyways for the First lyric that is repeated: "Nothing is real" This obviously talks about the realization that you are lucid and you are dreaming.

The second important lyric: "Living is easy with eye's closed" This could be a reference to how wonderful lucid dreaming is. How better life would be if we had complete control and power.

The Third: Ok this is the best line in the song. "And yes i know that it's a dream" This says it! he is saying he understands that he is dreaming, LUCID DREAMING! when i heard this lyric it led me to listen to the other lyrics and made me write this post.

And the last one: "But it's all wrong" this could be a hint to understanding that you are dreaming, saying to yourself: "What a minute... this is all wrong..."

In conclusion I am almost certain this song is based off a lucid dream. Just listen to the lyrics and the overall "trippyness" of the song and you'll agree.

I googled it and some think it is. I'm not sure.

I know "Silent Lucidity" by Queensryche is.

YES! I have the Across The Universe soundtrack and when I was listening to this song, I heard "Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see." and "but you know I know when it's a dream." and began thinking just what you did! I'm not sure though, it is the beatles, so it could be about an LSD trip or something.

(by the way, 1st post eva. Yay!)
12 LDs at least (most short), all DILD I believe.

I think it's more about LSD, or some hallucinogenic state of consciousness. "Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see." I always interpreted that as living a life of ignorance is simple, (but ineffective). Also, "That is you can't you know tune in but it's all right." I believe this is a reference to Timothy Leary, "Tune in and drop out." So probably about LSD but you never know
The journey is usually more rewarding than reaching the destination.

my friend told me that its actually written about an orphanage that was called Strawberry Fields. Something about when lennon or mccartney (whoever wrote it) was a kid he didn't have many friends and there was an orphanage close to his house and he would play with the kids from the strawberry fields orphanage. i dont know, i'll have to edit this post after i can talk to my friend.

Thats funny, because when my friends and I saw that movie we thought it would end with the main characters at home hallucinating with there hands reaching out trying to grab something. I dunno, thought it was sort of funny. As for the song and the music video of the original, I thought it sort of looked trippy like a lucid dream.

take a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ywg-PdeGVL0 (the music video of the Beatles Original)

That was a fairly early Beatles song which leads me to believe that it was about an acid trip instead. They didn't really start doing self realization until the 70s.

Thats really funny that you brought that up soul sleeper, I was just pondering this earlier this week. I think its most certainly about lucid dreaming, yes one could contrive that its about LSD and a trip but there is no line that stands out in the song to suggest that. The song as a whole seems that it could be about tripping but also it seems that it could be about LDs. Given that there are lines that are very specific with their reference to dreams and it seems like a probable subject for the song I think it is much more likely that Strawberry Fields is about LDs. Plus the idea that its about acid just kidda cheappens the song.

In its simplest terms, Strawberry Fields is a reference to the small garden John played at when he was a little kid in Liverpool. We know that much for sure. So one could easily see the song as advocating an escape into a childlike existence. (indeed, that's probably not far from the mark) However, the lyrics (to me) imply something a bit darker.
i think we're all right, childhood experiences + LSD... but i don't think it's about a lucid dream. it may be, but i dont think it is

Strawberry Fields Forever is about a orphange called Strawberry Fields by were John Lennon grew up. I do believe if you check the Wiki it has something in there.

      *checks Wiki*

Yeah, it says here that Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane both shared the theme of the member's childhoods. Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields both a representation of real places.

Strawberry Fields is about the orphange, not about an LSD trip or lucid dreaming.

It's not about LSD, like others have said, it's about a park next to an orphanage that John Lennon played in as a child. You can still visit the site today. It's a beautiful song about going back to a time in your childhood where there was nothing to worry about.

I am not sure about Strawberry Fields.
But I have heard that Hey Jude was written by Paul after dreaming the song.

You're thinking of 'Let It Be'. 'Hey Jude' was written by Paul for John's son Julian. Let It Be was written after Paul's deceased mother, Mary, came to him in a dream and said "let it be". I've heard different versions of the story of how Paul wrote 'Yesterday'. Some say the melody came to him in a dream while others say he woke up with it in his head.

I was told Strawberry Fields was a cemetary... But I do like the song. ^__^ "Living is easy with eyes closed" one of my favorite quotes. But yea, lllllllooooootttts of Beatles songs have theorys about them. Like Lucy in the Sky was about a acid trip, but I heard it was from a picture one of the Beatles kid drew.

"There are two types of people in this world, people who think there are two types of people, and people who don't."

yeah i'm not sure if it would be about a lucid dream. even the lyrics that say "you know i know it's just a dream" or whatever it said... a lot of artists dont mean "dreams" literally. mostly they mean dreams as in "your hopes and dreams" kind of dreams. but i dont know.

      Question Other songs

What other songs might be about LDs?
I don't know if this really has anything to do with LDs but one song thats lyrics at least remind me of them is "No Cars Go"

"We know a place where no planes go
We know a place where no ships go

      (Hey!) No cars go
      (Hey!) No cars go
      Where we know

We know a place no space ships go
We know a place where no subs go

      (Hey!) No cars go
      (Hey!) No cars go
      Where we know

      (Hey!)
      (Hey!)
      (Mom, Dad!)
      (No go!)

      (Hey!) Us kids know
      (Hey!) No cars go
      Where we know

Between the click of the light and the start of the dream [4x]"

Probably not based on LDs anyway but what do U think?

      Great song anyway
12 LDs at least (most short), all DILD I believe.
