      Cool Smoking and Dreams

Ever since I quit smoking about a week ago I've noticed a major drop in lucidity structure and vividness of my dreams, also i smoke in my dreams a lot when I didn't really before.
when tried to quit before I used patches and had unbelievably realistic dreams, but I stopped using patches in fear of using them all the time for lucid dreams and becoming addicted to them, plus the dreams realy freaked me out.

So, do yo think the nicotine from cigarettes enhance dreaming at all?, and do you think that smoking in dreams can help someone quit or just remind them of their addiction?

Wasn't there a topic around here about how those patches gave dreamers very vivid and realistic dreams to those who used 'em? In that case, I think it was just the patches.

Smoking in dreams, of course, can't be a good thing when you're trying to quit. Throw that damn cigarette down onto the floor and stomp the crap out of it!

Your addiction may be affecting your dreams, trying to make you smoke again (since you say that you've experienced vivider dreams before quitting). That's my opinion. Addictions try to work their way on ya!

Caleb pretty much said it all on the psychological side of it. Your smoking addiction seems to be bribing you from the back of your mind. "Return to the Dark Side, and you will have vivid dreams yet again..."

Nicotine may affect dreams, but I've never seen any credible studies on it. If it does, I'd assume that over time the brain will get used to the vividness, and drop down production of whatever chemicals help vividness naturally as a response. Now that you are off, you need to give your brain time to adjust and begin manufacturing these natural chemicals at their proper amounts again. That's the physiological view on it, I guess.

I think your dreams will return to normal within a few weeks or less.

it DOES make vivid-er dreams. but dont jeapordize your health for that small boost of vividness. quitting is hard to do, and if u start up again, it might be 3 times harder to quit again. try to build up a vividness on your own, and your natural vivid dreams will strengthen with time, and itll be better than relying on smokin da death stiks to dream good. =] ur welcome btw.

I just want to say to the poster above smoking in your dreams isnt necessary an unhealthy thing. Almost all people who drop addictions commonly experience usage while dreaming. Its certainly not doing any physical harm; as long as you can remain focus on your intent to quit you should be fine.

It is a non invasive way to vent some of the pressure if you are quitting cold turkey. My advice is to simply quit gradually in the dreams as well .

On topic yeah most smokers I talk to who have used the patch experience very similar symptoms with dreams. Either way remember that you are doing this for you, not the dreams or anyone else. All I can say is I really hope you the best man. Quitting cigs was probably the best thing I ever did, you can do it to .
