      Possible to be tricked?

Would it be possible to have a false awakening and not know (you think you just woke up normally..assuming of course you falsely awoke in your actual bed..otherwise you would obviously realise) and then just go about your morning routines not knowing it was all a dream?

Probably to an extent, but not too far into them I imagine. Good chance to realize you're lucid..I was taking a nap today, and I woke up and thought I was dreaming. I went back to sleep and had a dream that wasn't quite a false awakening but was like one. We have an alarm system in our house and I was repeatedly entering the code (3 or 4 times on it) and I didn't realize it was a dream, despite looking back at it the panel was slightly different from the actual, lol.

Yes and that's why it is a good habit to do a check everytime you awake from sleep.

Before I knew about false awakenings, I had one on a Friday morning. And in my dream, I did all my normal Friday stuff, I ate breakfast, I went to school, and I came back home and went to sleep. When I woke up for real on Friday, I was like "why is my alarm clock going off, it's Saturday dammit!" so I shut it off and went back to sleep. Needless to say, I was late for school, and have a new respect for false awakenings. I have yet to have a lucid dream from a false awakening, as I don't have them very often. That's also probably why they're so convincing for me.

I recently had my first false awakening, and it wasnt like I thought it would be. I dreamed that I had woken up from a dream, and I had to write it down in my DJ. Of course it didnt work, because everytime I tried to write the words kept changing. About a minute later I woke up for real and kicked myself for not noticing and doing a RC.

I'ver gone through entire days of fdalse awakenings, which can really screw up my life. One I false awakened for longer than a week, and let me tell you, it's no fun going to bed Friday and waking up last Wednesday.

Wow, that seems extreme to be in a dream for that long...normally mine are limited to one or two tasks, perhaps better dream recall would help?

Yep. Usually, false awakenings occur minutes before the actual awakening anyways.

The most interesting FA I've had was in a foreign setting. I woke up in a hospital, they said I had an alien eye, and were monitoring it during sleep. Once they told me, they put me back to sleep. Talk about creepy!

False awakenings can be super realistic. Always check when you wake up!

It's funny because during my first lucid dream I tried walking out the door in my room and I had a false awakening, but I didn't think about it as an FA I just thought I teleported back to my bed and I continued with the dream.

Yeah, it happens sometimes, although usually something will be amiss or out of the ordinary. Like waking up to find that a) you can't open your eyes all the way and b) there are zombies in your house. Or something. That's my own personal example.

That's why it's good to do a reality check whenever you wake up AND whenever you see something out of order. I'd imagine it would phenomenally reduce your chances of being fooled by a false awakening.

I often have false awakenings. They usually happen when I'm dreading something that's going to happen that day, so that I sort of live through it in my dream.

It can be useful, but once I had a false awakening directly after a lucid, and the false awakening was so vivid that when I did actually wake up I went through the entire day questioning reality. Then I got all depressed and philosophical and started wondering if maybe everything is just a dream, and nothing we do really matters, and we can never be sure whether or not we're awake because of how vivid some dreams can be. That wasn't a good day for me.

The next day, however, I perked up, did some Internet searching, and found this site! So it wasn't all bad.
