      Having Trouble Flying in LD's

I am reading this book "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen Laberge. In it he talks about the MILD technique. It has been incredibly successful for myself. So in the past 4 LD's I have had, I've really had a desire to fly around. Now; i always thought that its possible the 1st time you dream to fly but its not really working for me. Every time I try and go fly, it seems more like a bunny hop. Like i jump pretty high but i seem to glide back to down to the ground. If any of you have played any of the Halo games, you'll know exactly what i'm talking about.

So is flying an acquired skill or is it a off the bat action?
And what can I do to help me learn to fly?

This may sound cliche, but you have to believe. I flew for the first time last night, and it was amazing. I just jumped and thought "I KNOW i CAN fly!" And it worked. i couldn't really slow down though... ended up at the bottom of the ocean.... had to neo launch out of there.. lol.. Have fun, and i hope my "tip" helped. Just believe, KNOW that you can. It should work. Don't have any doubts.

      Have fun

I have to agree with reality<LDs on this one. It takes some practice, but once you imagine yourself doing it and it happens hold onto that feeling. Try to remember exactly what it was you were doing in your dream when it happened. What seems to to work for me may not work for others, but I hold that feeling in my mind right before falling asleep and quite often I can make it happen.

I've had some crazy flying dreams where I feel like I'm flying too high so I imagine powerlines to grab onto and slingshot my way back to the ground. Have you ever seen any episodes of the anime Serial Experiments Lain?? Because it seems to be a reference to that for me...

      Good luck!

I agree with the above replies. Im not kidding when I say its like that scene in the matrix when Morpheus told Neo to free his mind. You really have to free your mind from Reality and the Laws of Reality (the gravitational laws specifically). You have to know that your dream is not Reality, it is whatever you want it to be, therefore you can do what you want to do.
Like they said above me, you have to know that you can do something in order to do it. I flew in my very second LD (which was merely minutes after the first which lasted about 5 seconds, so basically first) on my very first try. I did so because I ran about 10 yards and then jumped knowing I was going to fly and, sure enough, I sored to the sky. It caught me off guard, to be honest, and caused me to wake due to control issues.
So my advice for flying is to always get a running start and then to jump in the manner in which you are most accostumed with. e.g.: I jumped off of one foot because Im predominantly a better one-foot jumper than I am a two-foot jumper in RL.

      Flying Tutorial

For me it took a while before I could fly effectively, although some people can do it right off the bat.

Here is a link to a tutorial on flying.

I have trouble with flying from time to time in my LDs. When I frst started to LD I had to "learn" to fly. I did this by running around the track at my elementary school (I was pretty young) and then leaping into the air. Each leap would be higher and last longer. I also experimented with swinging in a swing and then leaping out at the top of the arc. That worked really well. I also spent a lot of time imagining flying, which I think helped more than all my other efforts combined. I just spent time daydreaming about flying. How I'd launch into the air like a rocket and then how it would feel with the wind whipping past me.

Like others have said, you need to believe that it can be done. Your subconscious mind (the part that rules the dream world) likes to affirm your beliefs, what ever they are. So if you belive you can't fly, you won't. But if you believe you can you will.

I used to be able to do it when I was younger but I dont bother anymore I'm normally just happy in the area I come into!

But just so you know I used to have to get a run off and a jump to try and make it; sometimes it would work sometimes it wouldnt!

      Awesome fun though!
