      Question Sleep Paralysis Hallucinations!

I´v experienced SP episodes for around three years now and while in that state I often hallucinate, and by saying this I mean very real, clear hallucinations. A very common one is me lying in my bed (unable to move) and watching strange entities around me. My inability to move makes me react to this "appearances" by just ordering them to leave and using my mind to move stuff around me sort of like magneto moves stuff with his mind in X-men. One of my most vivid hallucinations was one where I levitated, but I obviously realized I wasn't when the SP slowly terminated.

I know SP is common and hallucinations during SP are normal, but I would like to know how many of you have experienced similar hallucinations and how often do you guys experience natural SP?

Yes, actually I had one SP experience a few years back in which i levitated about a foot off my bed, and hallucinated a headless man coming at me with a knife which was quite terrifying because I had no way of moving. However thats about it, I dont recall any other hallucinations but i dont go into SP hardly ever.

this is just my opinion but the hallucinations might be a dream... just a thought is it like colors or really weird stuff? i have never really "hallucinated" before and not being able to move is just another affect of the sleep paralysis.

Hi I am new to the forum, but not to SP. I have had SP for about four years, only one time have I had the hallucinations (and yes that is what they are called in the medical field), but they say that you can have outer body experiences, which I have not had yet either, but plan on trying. The hallucinations, can be very clear, and are often mistaken for "ghost", well who are we to say that they are not...I guess that is up for interpretation. All I know is that for the past four years, and frequently (at least twice a month) I have never been hurt. I have felt as if I was being pulled out of my bed, blankets being pulled off me, and numbness, and tingling, but never hurt. So I guess there is nothing to worry about....I hope lol. I am finally glad I have found some others that are dealing with SP, because for years, I have felt all alone. Feel free to add me to yahoo messenger, (any one that wants to talk about SP, and dreams) LINK IN PROFILE.

yeah you are definitely not alone. SP is very common but I just don´t know how common are the hallucinations. I used to think that they where only dreams, but after doing some research online I found out that they use the term hallucionations to describe the strange things one sees when in SP.

Also, at wikipedia and at some other site sonline they relate SP and hallucinations with alien abduction theories and ghost theories and off-course I think this theories are all a bunch of bs (although I am aware of our natural ignorace as humans and give to this theorists the benefit of the doubt). But... when people use hallucinatory substances their hallucinations are certainly not caused by ghosts or aliens so ...I am pretty sure that hallucinations during SP are a natural. This I simply conclude after doing some research and elimiating non-sense theories by applying some logic to the situation.

I've been having episodes of natural SP for 8 years. It happens about once every few months, but being stressed or not getting enough sleep dramatically increase my chances so I may get it multiple times in a week or multiple times in a night. I almost always get the hallucinations. I see entities, hear noises, or see other things in the room. I've never had the floating sensation though.

I started this thread yesterday after a few months of not experiencing SP hallucinations. As I find them very uncomfortable and to be honest...scary, the last thing I wanted was to have one last night and I did.
It was bad...I just would like to repress the memory.
I was having a normal dream and suddenly I opened my eyes and felt that my body just froze and started hearing scary voices as if someone was whispering in my ear. I couldn't understand anything but the sound was very real and I could choose to pay attention to the voices or not. At first I tried to understand the noises but then I just tried to get out of the SP and started yelling internally to the voices. Wile all of this was happening I was seeing a black small figure beside my bed -could not tell what it was. Then after aprox 25 sec I had again control over my body. It was so real that to be hosted I prayed a little before going to sleep.
I just don´t like these...specially now after reading stuff online - specially at wikipeida- that relate SP to demonic visits and stuff like that. The thing that kept me clam was the thought that I knew that it happened bc I had SPs in my head after creating this thread, reading about it etc.
Does someone here have similar experiences..? Alex, are the noices and entities as scary as the ones I see/hear?

The things I see and hear during SP can be very frightening and in SP I'm about as scared as I ever get. But at the same time I am also very calm because I know that everything I'm experiencing isn't real. In this way I think I'm much better off than many others who experience this stuff. I don't believe in ghosts or demons so those type of things don't bother me so much. The noises probably bother me the most because they incur that fear of the unknown (that is, I'm afraid I'll see what's making them) and they can be so loud they begin to hurt. Actually, I believe that the SP itself brings about a feeling of fear and the hallucinations are just our minds trying to justify that fear.

Another thing that makes me calm is that I always have a choice: I can stay in SP or wake up. You know that you can wake up right? For me it only takes a few seconds of trying to move and I can sit up. Although trying to move in SP is incredibly uncomfortable and sometimes I have FAs and find myself in a full-blown nightmare. And after learning about dream control on this forum, I suspect that we may actually have a lotta control over these hallucinations just as we have control over the things around us in our dreams. I have yet to try it (in the past I've always just stayed completely passive during SP which was my way of avoiding interaction with the hallucinations) but I did once find an entity so funny that it disappeared.

That´s funny that you mention this...last night I kind of laughed at the "entity" and then told him (mentally not out loud) F*** you! and thats where it all ended.

I never have visual symptoms, only audio. Usually some sort of song playing on the radio getting louder and softer.

For me, SPs usually consist of loud noises and people talking/arguing (also really loud). I've never seen entities around my bed or anything. SP is one of the methods used to achieve OOB and since entities dwell on the astral plane, I won't surprise if people see strange "entities" around them during SPs.

Shift taught me that SP is nothing more than the gateway into your dreams. If anything you should be excited when you get it because it means you are getting close to your lucid dream

I have had my fair share of scary SP as a child, and it resulted in an insane fear of the dark. I recently overcame that fear, so now SP is little more than something for me to laugh at.

Yes, I have had a lot of these. These were my first experiences with lucid dreams. I now lucid dream several times per week and my conclusion about sleep paralysis episodes is that they are lucid dreams during a different stage of the sleep cycle.

There are two types of SP: hypnagogic and hypnapompic. Both are stages of sleep. The former is when you first fall asleep and the latter is right before you wake up. I've had both many times. Hypnagogia is characterized by the feeling of impending doom and the presence of evil.

My early episodes of hypnagogic SP used to terrify me. I've had several sorts. I've levitated just off the bed, floated off the bed, floated around the room wildly with no control, vibrated along with the bed like a sine wave, choked by a demon-like creature on my chest, repetitive false awakenings, and very vivid out-of-body experiences.

They used to terrify me and I hated when it would happen. I would panic and try to force myself to wake up. Nowadays, I see it as an initial stage to pass through when having a Wake Initiated LD. There seems to still be the presence of evil (not nearly as bad), but I pass through the stage quickly, within 10 seconds. It always occurs in my immediate environment (eg., bedroom), I usually float and everything is dark (lack of bright colors, lack of light). Sometimes there are also visual hallucinations (demon on chest, writing on wall, to name a few) and auditory hallucinations (footsteps, rocking chair).

Having hypnagogia is GREAT. That means you're having a Wake Initiated LD. Don't panic. Don't wake up. Try to focus on the fact that it's just a stage of sleep that you have to go through when having a Wake Initiated LD. Stick through it and very soon you will have a peaceful, non-frightening lucid dream. The fear will quickly dissipate as you pass through the stage.

Lucid dreams that begin with hypnagogic sleep paralysis are ones where I've had out-of-body experiences. These are my favorite kind. They're much more real-like and are a lot less hazy. The imagery is less colorful and less outrageous compared to Dream Initiated LDs; more like real-life rather than Alice in Wonderland.
