      Ways to spot another LDer

This topic may have been wrote about before on this forum but I can't find it so lets give this one a go.

Have any of you ever wondered how many lders surround you when you are in a public place. What if there was a way to pick out a dreamers just like you can pick out a hippie or jock in a large group of people. I was just wondering if any of you guys and gals have an idea on a way people could notice other lders in a way other than speaking, like a certain symbol or gesture or maybe even a specific way of standing. I just think it would be an awesome way to connect with other people. Any thoughts?

wish there was a way to tell. there should be some universal symbol for us "Dreamers". someone needs to come up with that.
Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead...only try to realize the truth. There is no spoon. Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

      @Reapsltd666:
Heh, believe it or not, we tried creating one a while back. I even contacted a few Lucid Dreaming websites asking for them to mention this "greeting." (I also tried Wiki, dnow how many sites other people tried) It never took.

Someone here... I think it is Reality_is_a_Dream, suggested LDers have a symbol on their hand.

Although I think it's kinda impractical, it would be cool to be able to spot LDers. I guess you have to just look out for RC's.

there should be a symbol or mark that every LD'er gets so they're easy to Identify... I have a friend in wikipedia who can set up that part... we could spread the new symbol!

I have always thought this is unnecesary. Dreaming isn't a fashion statement or a clan you can be part of, its a universal part of human nature. There are almost as many different types of dreamers as there are types of people.

I agree with apachama on this one, except in cases where you see someone doing a reality check, in which case it would just be fun to say "Hey". LDing has a bad enough rap to the general public without us all being seen as some insane new age cult with tattoos and shit, though imo

      Ya that is true.....
Ive heard from a few people on this forum that they feel looked down on because of their lucid dreaming, so many people probably don't want to advertise.
Any symbol that becomes universal will spread to the general public and I'm sure I don't want everyone I meet knowing about it

I think it's the dreamer themselves that find LDing small. If they treated it with better respect they won't feel looked down in the first place. Collecting toys or womanizing/flirting is also small if anyone wants to pick what small is just because many people are doing it publicly dosen't make it any different/better than LDing.

I don't feel looked down on. But the same way that I don't flaunt my religious, sexual, or political preferences, or other things I feel are personal to me, I wouldn't want to just flaunt the fact that I am a lucid dreamer. In cases where it is appropriate, I share it with others. Otherwise, I keep it to myself and revel in my ability privately. It's not about respecting lucid dreaming, because I am all about my ability to lucid dream. It's just about my life, my privacy (which I highly value), and not having my shit flaunted. Not to mention I get annoyed when RL noobs talk to me about LDing, and waste my time, but are not really serious about it. I'd rather see someone performing a reality check, know they are a dedicated oneironaut, and strike up something.

I do my RCs VERY blatantly in the hopes that someone truly interested will recognize or call me on them. If you ever see a girl in Florida pushing her fingers into her hands, counting and looking at her hands, and checking the time like she's got OCD, say Hi

I am also highly against using physical markers to state things. I'd prefer people cannot tell much about me just by looking at what I am wearing on my body (clothing or skin). But that is my personal nature. Obviously, others will feel differently. They should all get tattoos or whatever and if I see it, I'll say "Hey, you're... dreaming!" lmao

What would be pretty cool is those bracelets, like those LIVE or whatever awareness bracelets. They are aptly named for a group of people all about awareness, and I'm sure they could be used to help RC... You could take them off whenever you wanted, but they would be distinctly clear to anyone who saw them. Hmm...

Ok an even better idea. Someone needs to invent a watch, a watch ideal for lucid dreamers. It could have all sorts of crazy timers and a vibrate-alarm function (for those wbtbs) and would be digital for RCs, and it could even randomly buzz a bit just to get you to do a reality check. It would be practical (everyone wants a watch, right?), helpful (wbtb and rcs!), and if it was distinct enough that the people who care could recognize LDers, well, we'd all be able to recognize each other.
So yes I guess in conclusion if there was something like this out there, I would proudly wear it. Mainly because it serves more of a function than to just alert other LDers to my presence, but that that is a bonus

I don't feel that way either, I'm just saying that I have heard others say that

Or maybe even the forehead...and if it's on the hand it has to be on the right hand.

perhaps when one suspects the other of being an LDer they could make some funky noise like

      hoogybajoogy snarf!!!

or remote sensors that beep when you are near another LDer!!!

or every LDer could wear red shoes with muave stripes!!!!!!

or every LDer could shave a big L and big D in the back of their hair, and if you're bald you could tattoo it on the back of your head!!!!!!!!!!

      the possibilities are endless!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!11111!!!!t*(&^(*&7986493

      This has to be said.

Lucid dreaming is not, and will not, ever be a cult.

I like this idea, but I see little potential to take off.

I like the hand drawing idea, thats what I was thinking

      I came up with this

      (.=space)

      ..-----..
      -........ -
      --------
      ......... -
      ..........-
      --------.

its just the letters L and D connected at the base and rotated.

Only one problem with that signal, how would someone without the use of one of their hands or the complete lack thereof do it? If you're going to make LDing a cult you should at least have it be something everyone can do.

I sell "Lucid Dreamer" T-Shirts, if anyone is interested. I don't emblazon them with anything but the words, as it's only to make a connection with others as you venture through life. It's a wonderful way to meet and talk about lucid dreaming.
