      still can't WILD

right, after mu initial accidental DILD I'm still trying to get another LD.

      my 'tactics'

      time passed: several weeks

RC's throughout the day, dream diary with dreams recorded every night.

when I try to WILD I have no problem not moving and breathing and counting my breaths to 300-500 but after that it gets tedious and I just get too tired and change position since I think to myself "well, this proved nothing. too bad". How many brearh counts should it take on averange? Btw I'm trying to WILD directly when going to sleep not when waking up in the night.

TAKE DV members advice with caution! some have had zero or 1-2 LD's yet act like gurus
      TOTAL LD's (almost all DILD/MILD) =160!!
new goals: have more LD's than Shift[X]

The parts in bold are the reasons you are having trouble.
You don't want to be focusing, you want to be aware. Counting breaths is quite likely to keep you awake and focused too much on your physical body.Instead, try watching your thoughts, or lightly focus on any unnatural feelings, such as swaying side to side or any others that pop up on their own.

By not sleeping before hand, it means that you will have to first - fall asleep while remaining aware, and do so for at least 1hour and 30minutes, waiting on REM to start. This is very difficult, you actually have to fall asleep while remaining conscious through all stages of sleep. This is actually what i am attempting to do.

However, if your aim is just to have a lucid dream via WILD, then you should be sleeping for a good few hours before hand.

hmm okey I'll try the waking up at night thing, however usually I do so anyways after my dreams- is that bad because the REM cycle is over and should I set an alarm to wake me up earlier?

also what staying awake technique do you recommend?

      Oh well in that case try this;

If you feel yourself waking up, or you just suddenly become aware that you are awake, don't move. Keep your eyes closed, stay still, and go right into a dream.

This is a method of WILDing aswell, and it is much easier.

hmm I could try that, but the reason I wake up is that I usually drink too much water- it helped me to wake up naturally before my 'normal' alarm to record my dreams since getting up and turning off alarms kills dream recall. I think I'll modify my tactic to not drinking (a lot of) water before going to bed and indeed setting my alarm to like 4AM (I have to wake up at 7:30).

Maybe you should stop trying to WILD for a while.
MILDing is much easier, and if you truly focus on it, often works.

Once your in a dream and lucid theres a good chance the dream will, when it ends, fade out around you. This is an excellent chance to DEILD, which really is just a special WILD. This will help you get familiar with the feelings and process.
      Lucid Dreams:-
      MILD/DILD: 79
      WILD: 13
      DEILD:13
      (TOTAL: 108 )
