      Snowboarding in LD?

I have read before that some people claim to actually do activities such as snowboarding in a lucid dream, and the experiences in their dreams actually improved their real life riding abilities. Are things like that actually true? Or is that just a load of bull?

And one other thing, I know this is in the wrong section, but I am a newbie to this. I have tried a few times, but given up after a week or so without success. What should I do to try to induce my first LD?

      Given up after a week?

      That's your problem.

      You've got to be patient.

I've yet to give up, and it's been far longer than a week.

So stick with doing RC's, try some autosuggestion.

I always have issues remembering to do RC's...what are some common RC's that other people use? I always used to try to pinch the back of my hand or something along those lines.

I personally pinch my nose and try to breathe.

      IF it's a dream, it'll work.

      If not, well..........

Pinching your hand doesn't really work because you could feel that sensation in a dream.

As for remembering, try to do them everythime you look at a clock, or something along those lines.

I have a watch that beeps every hour, and at every beep I'll take a look at my surroundings and do an RC, which for me is usually pinching my nose and trying to breath.

I'm not so sure about improving real life abilities by exercising said abilities in a dream though, so I can't really say whether it would work or not.

      Hey there,

This is a very interesting subject. I'm a huge fan of visualization and have seen results from it, no doubt. I also see dreams as a form of visualization, therefore I wouldn't be surprised at all if this were true.

Here's a cool article by the way.

Let us know of any updates!

Thanks for that article, that was actually very interesting. Not quite what I read but still very close. The segment on where it says most skiers on a hill ssay to themselves "don't fall" really did seem to make sense. I will start trying to do more frequent reality checks

it took 3 weeks for me, then i heard a month was the average time it took, keep working at it. a dream journal is a must, i wish i was practicing what i was preaching because when i had one i remember all 3 of my dreams every night. now its 1 per night.

I had a non-lucid snowboarding dream the other night. Just thought I'd throw that in, lol.

The main problem with improving on these types of activities, is the lack of gravity in dreams. Though, gravity can sometimes seem pretty realistic, it obviously acts very different from real life. Though, I have not done any real research on it, so that's just my opinion.

I am a very agile acrobatic person in my dreams. But you won't ever catch me trying to do a hand spring off the roof of someones car in real life. Or any other such thing. I feel so much heavier in the real world.

      Good point!

What if you were to create gravity in a lucid? I mean, people seem to be doing all kinds of crazy stuff, so why not make yourself weigh more, or just plainly adding gravity to the dream's environment? Just a thought.

Also some people don't have the best imagination. Now given I haven't experienced a lucid dream so I am only guessing, but a person COULD just have more realistic type of environment in their dream

You can definitely have a realistic dream environment, but take a second to think of how many factors go into making your waking environment what it is. Recreating every single aspect of that would be next to impossible.
