      Talking A lifelong avid dreamer

      Hey everyone!

I remember this site from about 2 years back when I experienced some weird dream related stuff, and have finally signed up just to tell people how I dream without being looked at funny.

As long as I can remember, I have had extremely vivid dreams. I can recall them with every minute detail, every morning.

I can even remember dreams that I had as a 6 year old, now.

I have only had a lucid dream once, when I was around 11. I had a standard dream, but was then sitting at a desk, with a pad and pen, and anything I wrote on the paper I could dream about. It was the most exhilerating and comforting thing I had every experienced and I can see how people can easily become addicted to lucidity.

I have always been able to dream while having short naps (5 minutes), and a night of deep sleep will often produce up to 9 or 10 unconnected dreams.

My dreams vary from euphoric, bizarre and some times tear inducingly sad. I have on numeous occassions woke up bawling my eyes out. I have also sometimes woken up with a large dopey grin and wishing it could never end.

The experience that happened a couple of years ago was quite amazing. I was lying on my bed on a 2 hour break from work, and was concious the whole time, but could feel myself drifting asleep. It was as though I was sinking into my bed, but my mind was completely active. It began to get darker and darker (even with my eyes closed) and a slow whooshing noise filled my ears. This was a strange feeling and when it felt like it was about to hit a 'peak' so to speak, I panicked and woke up.

I now regret that and wish I had gone along with it.

Any explanations/comments/insight would be greatly appreciated!

hi and welcome! the experience you described is sleep paralysis- look it up in the tutorials section. The essence of it is if you perfectly lye still long enough
without loosing consciousness your body will fall asleep, and this is used to have very vivid lucid dreams (WILD). I've had but a few but they are amaaaazing!
TAKE DV members advice with caution! some have had zero or 1-2 LD's yet act like gurus
      TOTAL LD's (almost all DILD/MILD) =160!!

Welcome to Dreamviews and enjoy Head over to the tutorials to read about the different techniques to induce a lucid dream. As for your experience, sounds like it was SP(aka sleep paralysis). It's basically when your mind is still awake, but, your body is falling asleep and you get these different sensations
