      pain in dreams

Has anyone thought they felt genuine pain in a lucid dream? I have never really looked into this but recently there have been a few times that I thought I felt a pain sensation, but I'm not positive. I remember feeling something though.

About a month ago I had some lucid dreams while being sick and at times I felt pain, but I figured being ill caused this. Within the last two weeks there were a few times I thought I felt pain. In one recent dream I stabbed my hand with a pencil and it felt really weird and uncomfortable. Then some chick scratched me with her fingernails and I experienced a similar sensation. Today I had a lucid dream and this weird creature thing tried to bite me and I remember it's teeth feeling sharp and it was sort of painful or uncomfortable.

On a similar note I had a really uncomfortable sleep paralysis hallucination today that sort of bled into the dream. I often get this electricity feeling in my neck during sleep paralysis, but today it felt stronger and covered my neck and part of my face, especially my eye. I started lucid dreaming but the feeling persisted and I tried to wipe my face with my hand out of reaction to the feeling and I felt something like a protrusion where my eye was. It was really uncomfortable. Eventually I tried to ignore it and it went away.

The pain sensation is what I'm am curious about the most though. I want to know if it's possible to experience pain beyond mild discomfort in dreams. I figure since I've experienced other feelings while dreaming (sight, sound, sex, taste, whatever) why not pain as well?

In none of my dreams do I remember feeling genuine pain. In fact, in a recent non-lucid, I ripped out one of my own teeth without any pain whatsoever. http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...90&postcount=8

I've experienced pretty intense pain in dreams, mostly in non-lucids though. Sometimes I get pretty hysterical trying to avoid pain in my lucids, because I know how real it will feel and how much it will hurt

I have felt pain in my dreams before. I think it's mainly a thing of what you expect. If you expect it to hurt than it more than likely will.

For instance, I had a dream in which something was taking place that I knew should hurt but it didn't hurt. As soon as I had the thought I felt the pain and tried to make it stop. Fortunately the dream went to another scene so I was able to get out of the situation.

But yeah, I think pain is just as common as pleasure. It's just that you look forward to feeling the pleasure, not the pain. Both are just illusions from your mind since neither are actually taking place. (well, in some cases there are acceptions like wetdreams ?)

I've experienced pain in normal dreams. Usually if dogs bite me, it feels as if it was as real as day.

I have dealed with a good amount of injuries in a dream. I have had almost everything done to me. From being eaten alive to being stabbed in my throat. It is quite a challenge to win against myself but I always lose. Though it is teaching me to deal with pain. That is my lesson it teaches me.

PS: Never dream of a power rangers and cannibalism. Most likely they will eat you alive. /myclassicdreamofwhenIwasyounger

A month ago I never would have guessed that one could feel pain in a dream. It makes sense though. Thanks for all the replies. I sure wouldn't want to learn more about this the hard way. I should probably exercise caution in the future. It sure is interesting though and part of me is tempted to experiment with this whole concept; maybe I will have to learn the hard way.

I can see where believing whether something can hurt you or not would effect whether or not you feel the pain. I have no fear of falling and experiencing pain in a dream, probably because it happens so often, but if something tried to bite me I might start having doubts about my safety and start thinking about the potential pain, which at a fundamental level probably causes the pain in the first place.

I had pain in my dream early this morning. I had pulled my leg through the window and something ending up being lodged in my shin. It looked like some kind of flowerly wood or something. I also injured my toe. The bump in my leg hurt really bad and when I awoke from the dream my leg was sore in the same spot.
