      RCs giving false positives

I've finally gotten my recall up to par, and I'm starting to focus on lucids now. About three times now, I've said to myself in dreams "That doesn't make sense! This must be a dream!" but when I did a reality check, I had 5 fingers on each hand, and couldn't breath when I held my nose. Does anyone else have this problem? How can I fix it?

Hm, why not try looking for a different RC? I use gravity as a RC because the common ones just won't work <.<
Other than that, making mental RC along with the normal ones is best way.

Just keep trying a series of them, in case a few fail. When you do your RCs, do them EXPECTING them to tell you you're dream. Try to visualize the dream result. Visualize the tip of the finger going through your hand, visualize extra fingers, and if your hand looks ok visualize more fingers growing out of it.

Well, some RCs don't work for a given person. (Pretty much all of the hand related ones don't work for me. But Shift's right, they seem to work for most people. But the plugging up your nose and breathing works without fail.)

It's also why people say to do at least three. (Even when you are doing RL RCs.)

Chances are, if you actually are believing that it's a dream you can be pretty sure that it is without RCing, (though you should certainly still do and RC to solidify it and build confidence.) I am just saying that you should keep doing RCs until one fails. Maybe try auto-suggestion? Dream control methods can be RCs in themselves.
