And when you visualize things, don't focus only on appearance. Let's go with Eminence's apple example. When you start to see the apple, think about what color it is. Is it bright red or a light golden color? How big is it?
Next focus on the texture. Is it smooth? Waxy?
After that, smell it. "Picture" the scent of an apple within your nose. It should smell as real as if an apple were right below your face, if only fleetingly.
Now, taste it. Listen to the soft crunch as you bite into it; let the sweet taste fill your mouth.
It may be hazy at first, but if you keep at it then you'll get better! Practice makes perfect, after all.
