i physically blocked myself from exploring my dream world!

I had my second lucid dream experience last night... which ended in a semi-failure (though I do consider it a success just because it's my second one). What happened was I dreamt that I was lying on my bed trying to induce a lucid dream. I started feeling all these weird bodily sensations, like I was floating/flying around, doing dips and turns in the air (yet I was still in my body in the dream) and it felt really weird, and my heartbeat in the dream got so fast it sounded like a machine gun and I felt my chest and it felt like my heart was pumping so hard it'd just pop out. Then I got up ,still in the dream, a little worried and I was going to check the internet on my laptop to see what that kind of physical symptom could be.

But for some reason I thought it was really weird that my heart would beat like that so I decided to do a reality check. I looked for the first text I could see, and it was the volume wheel on my laptop (it said "volume" above it in my dream, even though in real life it doesn't say anything but I didn't realize this until I woke up). I looked away and then looked back and not only was the text gone but half of the volume wheel was gone and it was just a little stub! I got super excited at this point and I wanted to look around and explore but next thing you knew my forearm was stuck to my face covering both eyes! And no matter how hard I tried I couldn't pull it off! And I kept trying and trying for a few more seconds and then I just woke up...

I wonder why something like this would happen... right before I'm about to explore my dream world! It sucked so bad.... lol. Does anyone have some tips on this?

Random things like this are prone to happen in dreams. Instead of trying to force it to come off your face, doing it passively may have worked much better. For instance, trying to see through your arm, or dream spinning.

Yeah if you think about pulling it off your face, you're also thinking about it being there.

Also did you wake up with your arm over your face by any chance?

This is really interesting. I have had certain dream characters attempt to attack me in certain lucid dreams before. However, with a sort of matrixy "there is no spoon" mindset, i can manage to just walk through them, and after that, whatever i want to be there will be there.

You have to try to not pay attention to it. The more attention you give to it, the more likely you're going to wake. If you ignore it, it will cease to exist in your dream.

      ...What?
      Not at all.
Everyone's different, as should be obvious. There are very few, if not any at all blanket-like, all-encompassing statement.

If you want someone or something to disappear, tell them to do so. Believe it. We have a tutorial on general dream control if you'd like to read it.

forcing your will on it can cause the dream to destabilize.
That supports part of what I said.

As to the other part, I was referring more to that thread (i forgot what it's called) about where if you do not give your attention to it it ceases to exist.

There's nothing untrue about what I said.

      Heya,

Out of curiosity, were you physically lying with your forearm over your eyes or something? A lot of lucid dreams happen during 'light' sleep, and its not unusual for actual physical stimuli from your body to work their way into the dream.

That said, I agree with other posters. By paying too much attention to something in a dream you empower it, often increasing the problem. Turning your attention elsewhere often makes the problem fade away on its own.
