      Dreams placing false memories?

Ive wondered if this happens to anyone else? you dreamed a dream and then later that dream affected your memory of the past? if you dont get what i mean heres an example that i went through.

For many years i had thought that my aunt had this large beautiful garden that was breathetaking and i went to her house rarely to. I had lived right next door to her for a good 3-4 years as well before i moved to where i am now. so one day i went over her house for a party and i took a look at the garden. there was nothing there..it was just an empty piece of land. i was pretty confused and then i remembered that a long long time ago i had dreamt that this place was that garden and it never existed...

that was the only one i can remember for now, but does this happen to anyone else?

      Hi Nightowl

I have had a few dreams like that and many more involving smaller things. I usually figure out it was a dream sometime the next day when I go to spend my dream-placed money! However, you had no way to remind yourself that it was a dream. I have to admit that despite the confusion and disappointment it can sometimes bring, I rather like the feeling!

Maybe that just gives us another practical reason why we should practise dream recall more!

I have had something like that happen before. The only one I'm aware of is from when I was really little, like 5 or younger. I was playing in the park with my dad in the snow, and he rolled this huge roll of snow, that looked like a spiral on the side. I later realized this was impossible, but it still remains an incredibly vivid memory. I'm sure I've had others, too, as I used to have dreams that left me wondering what had happenned after I woke up, and none of the past few hours had actually occurred.
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

I kinda get this too I think, Ive had recurring dreams about certain places so many times they feel like real memories, I can picture them and remember my experiences there just as clearly as high school for example. Its kind of weird because it seems like maybe it takes place of a real memory.

Is it easier to remember past dreams or events in past dreams while in a dream?? Thatd be weird, like we have two seperate memory banks.

Well they've proven that hypnotherapists are able to place false memories by accident
And the dreaming state is very similar...

It sometimes makes me wonder if perhaps they are slightly real , like dreams from another life or something, like precog .
But then thats probably me just wanting to believe they are real because they allways seem to be really good dreams/ memories
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.

Yeah. I've had dreams like this. I'll never really know which things are indeed true. Heh.

      I've experienced this before:

When I was on a road trip when I was real young it was at night and I drifted off. I had a very vivid dream about driving through a small country neighborhood and stopping at a gas station by a farm. It was still night and I heard a rooster crow from the farm. Suddenly it was daylight right after that rooster crowed. Everyonce in awhile afterwards I would remind my parents of how it became daylight so quickly but they said it never happened when I got older I realized it must have been a vivid dream.
