      Personal Dreaming World

So i was talking about dreaming and lucid dreaming with my girlfriend...and it seems like she does it often! Besides that, she claims she has a whole detailed world that she has worked on that she goes into when shes lucid and even told me in detail every part of the place. Would this just be a part of the unconscious mind that has created a personal "realm" for the person to explore in? Or would it be something created like in the astral?

*edit* and she also states that its the locations in her personal realm that spark her lucidity, like "oh theres my lake in my world" and become aware she is dreaming, and would leave items around like a flashlight to turn on to see if she is dreaming or not

Hmmm, that seems useful. I might start trying something like that. How long ago did she make her world? And was she able to become lucid before she created it?
The creature laughed, scornfully. "I," it said, "am afraid of nothing." "Nothing?" "Nothing," it said. "Are you extremely afraid of nothing?" "Absolutely terrified of it," admitted the dragon. "You know, I have nothing in my pocket, would you like to see it?" "No," said the dragon, uncomfortably, "I most definitely would not." There was flapping....and Charlie was alone of the beach.
"That," he said, "was much too easy."

If you can imagine a world then you can step into it.

I am currently building my own world too.

She was able to become lucid before the world. It was just a playful conversation in the living room waiting for a movie to start, and her sister goes yeah same here, and they were talking about how difficult it was to fly and everything and im sitting here going !!!!!! darn youuuu lol, of all the stuff ive read on the board and on the net, should be alot easier, but i do have really good dream recall just need the lucidity part. but once im lucid, i will try to find a way to build your own personal dream realm to enter. i am just curious if anyone else has experience with making these "personal dream realms"

Wow cool thing with your GF. I built my own world in dreams, just call it "DW" in the journal because I'm lazy... has different dimensions, a lot of space, only place I visit a lot is my planet <.<

Check out Abra's DJ. Most if not all of it are about a single persistent adventure in a dream world.

      I almost feel guilty for removing it from the public eye now. ;__;

It had reoccurring characters and places. Only a handful of times, though, would I see the characters in non-lucids (and their appearance usually led to lucidity). Some of the places ("Infinity Forest") remain very strong symbols in my dreams, even after months of not journaling.

I can tell you pretty much step by step how it was done, how real it feels, etc.

My dream world is just a super awesome version of the real world. I usually have lucids at my house, in my neighborhood and everything is the same, yet different. Trees glow, everything's ALOT more detailed and beautiful. That's how I know I'm dreaming and I love to be there!

It first focused on finding and summoning a dream guide. The design for the guide was inspired by my first good lucid, where I found its picture on a card (and decided it'd make a pretty cool character). From there, my goal was to make the character stable, to find it in multiple dreams, and give it a sense of personality. My guide was a raccoon-thing, so naturally I searched in a forest for it (in real life, our backyard has a forest. This made it easier to find in the dream!). Over the course of a couple months, the character would appear more easily. It would always be realistic. At times, it would take on characteristics of my cat, and I'd have to take time out of the dream to make it look like itself again. My advice is, don't get so hung up on appearance.

If I went into the dream (or fall asleep) with confidence, thinking that "I'm a veteran at this; of course it will be easy. I've done it/been there before, after all!" I'd have a much smoother time, and the characters would be move involved, acting as if I was indeed "there."

Other places were added, and had a position that usually didn't change. The Base was always in the forest (not too deep), and Terraturi (a city that was once cursed) was past the forest (very far, requires flight or teleportation). My main three were visited several times, and each of them usually changed in appearance each time. Elements of The Base seemed to be influenced by my domestic life, and the appearance of the forest itself most likely reflected my current mental state as a whole. Terraturi remained most constant. The shifting appearances didn't bug me much, since the relative locations, characters within them, as well as the locations' functions all remained constant. The biggest problem with the locations is that a few times, the forest (gateway to all my other locations) would simply not be there, replaced by a field or endless suburbia. You've got to be creative and teleport if that happens.

There were a few minor places as well. Neighbor's house, the Lab, etc. Once I finished my task there, I didn't visit them again.

There was usually an effort on my part to get to this dream world, or to get the characters to appear. I'd make collages of the locations, and even attempt to make the characters themselves, to make them more stable and easier to summon in the dream. During WBTB, I'd look at the collages or re-read successful entries. Get yourself in the mindset that there is continuity to your dreams, and contiuity will occur. The plot will pick up where it left off, even if you end up starting from your bedroom each time. The characters always knew what was going on. Plot continuity was the most effortless part of it all, actually. Started getting creepy towards the end, when plot points and symbols that I hadn't given notice to started reappearing.

Thanks for posting the way you do it, Abra. I'm more interested in the plot continuity, because I have these dreams that seemed to be more personal to me than others and I'd just want to continue that dream. I'll have to see what I can do. And once I got the plot continuity down I can start with my world.

Again, continuity is simple to achieve, because it's intuitive in waking life. If it happened in yesterday's dream, then people in tonight's dream will still remember it.

I never had any idea that persistant worlds like that could be possible in dreams! That's incredible!
Lucid dreaming is such an advantage, it's like being able to live twice as long because you get to do things while you sleep.

Oh myy, I would absolutely love to have a dream world! But then I'd end up enjoying it too much and I'd just want to sleep forever.

sounds cool! might try it some time. Though sorta skeptical of this whole super-stable ideal designed world. Then again compared to the entire notion of LD-ing I can see that it could be possible.
TAKE DV members advice with caution! some have had zero or 1-2 LD's yet act like gurus
