      More creative in a dream?

So last night I dreamed I was playing a song on guitar and when I woke up I started playing the melody and now I'm thinking of writing a song around that melody...it also got me thinking if our creativity level when we're dreaming is different from when we're awake...Has anyone tried to write a song or paint during a lucid dream?

I recently had a dream where I was at a concert of Magma, one of my favorite bands. They started playing what I immediately called 'new material', but upon waking up it was obvious it all came from my subconscious. It was pretty good, and sounded like something they'd write. Unfortunately I don't tend to dream vividly enough to retain that kind of sensory information, guess its something I need to work on in waking life.

But yeah I think creativity has a lot to do with how much of one's awareness is invested in subconscious processes. In dreams you're completely engulfed in that subconscious creative state of mind. Its pretty fascinating.

Don't know if this is the same thing but I'm a writer and I've definitely gotten many ideas for stories while dreaming... whole plotlines have come from my dreams, as well as surrealistic environments I never would have imagined in my waking life.

... Those haven't been lucid dreams where I've intentionally set out to come up with these plots and scenes, though. But it's an interesting thought. Next time I have a lucid dream I will see if I can have it lead me to one of the characters in the book I'm currently working on. Might help me more fully understand that character's motives if I can talk to her in person!

      Thanks for the idea...

I'm a writer, too, and I've gotten a lot of my ideas and settings from dreams. It's one of the reasons I'm interested in lucid dreaming -- I'm hoping that with enough practice I'll be able to get around places where I'm stuck instead of just waiting for it to happen.
