      breaking an addiction

I have gotten my dad interested in lucid dreaming by saying it will help break an addiction (which I know it can do). He is addicted to caffine. any tips on what he should do.

      Stop drinking cofee.

Haha sorry, but really..whatever form of caffeine he is taking, he will probably just need to stop doing it somewhat before he starts lucid dreaming. Maybe if he is really jacked up all the time, have him get into WILDing, (Wake Initiated Lucid Dreaming) That will probably be easier for him to do, but he might have to cut back on the caffeine a while before trying this, so he should use the WBTB method as well. I havent read much into this topic so i dont know what he should or could do in the dream to help break the addiction. Maybe create a nightmare about coffee for himself . Sorry but i really dont know.

Maybe you should look into the same sources where you got this knowledge:

I heard of LDs curing phobias but I'm not so sure about addiction... I don't see or heard about how LDing will rid people of addictions though, maybe theres another method to get him of caffine?

That's the general idea. If you're addicted to cigs, smoke only in your dreams. If you are addicted to sex, have sex in your dreams. If you are addicted to cake, eat cake in your dreams.

But this isn't cigarettes, sex, or cake. There is an easier solution here:

I don't mean to be the one of bad news, but in a sense I believe it is impossible to be not addicted to caffeine..

We go about our everyday lives taking in caffeine without even noticing it. From coffee, sodas, candy bars, etc... In a sense we are all "addicted" to caffeine, we just don't know it because it 99.9 % of the cases,it has no negative effect. No body is losing their house or their job, as well as their family over caffeine. It's just a shadowy addiction, that goes unnoticed. We are programed to believe we need caffeine.. If there is a way to un-program ourselves from it... That would be interesting to see...

Well, I'm not addicted to caffeine. Actually, I used to drink soda every day when I was a kid, but I only have one now every few months or so. Oh, and I've never been a person who drinks coffee everyday. Only had Starbucks a few times in my life (I guess that saves me some money there). If you think I'm bragging, my brother has never even once tasted coffee. I think that an addiction to caffeine can be overcome like other addictions; it just takes effort.

I do agree with you, but some people might have more caffeine then others. For instance, not everyone eats candy bars and drinks soda. There might be a cup of coffee here and then, but some people tend to have more caffeine then others. Also not everything has caffeine.

But to answer zeldafreak's question, try to get your dad to do some techniques and RC daily so his mind gets off the caffeine and more towards lucid dreaming. It might work out! =]

I agree that a lot of people are addicted to caffeine, but i dont believe for one second that its impossible to not be addicted to caffeine. Im not addicted to it at all, and im sure there are a lot of people out there like me. I dont drink soda(on very slim occasion i might drink soda, if it comes with fast food or something of the like..which i also almost never eat), rarely eat candy, and like the others i really dont drink coffee. If someone really wanted to quit their intake of caffeine they could do it, not easily though, but im sure its been done before.

Tell him that in his dreams Diet Pepsi will taste ten times better than in real life. That should be a good motivator for getting him to lucid dream.

Well. Pot and lucid dreaming aren't really friends. So it helped me overcome my pot addiction, because I couldn't choose both. Depends on the individual and addiction I guess.

From my own experience, the best method I have found for getting off of caffeine is to buy a bottle of NoDoz. Start out by taking what ever amount you need to satisfy the addiction for the first day. Then cut a little bit off of that every day, until your down to just a little sliver of a piece.

Honestly, I don't think that Lucid Dreaming could do anything to quench the horrible headaches and fatigue that comes with caffeine withdrawal.

You want him to give up not coffee but Pepsi?

I don't see how LD'ing can help with the addiction of caffeine.
